SUMMARY:Peaks Trip\, 10-13 September - Cancelled
DESCRIPTION:Hi everyone. For a few years now I’ve been going on an annual trip to the Peaks organised by a friend of a friend. After a year’s hiatus it’s back on this year\, and Steve (the organiser) has kindly extended the offer to GMBC – don’t all thank me at once. See the bottom of the post for a cut-n-paste of the whole weekend details\, but here are the highlights: \nDrive down Thursday night\, stay in an awesome wee B&B (or camp just next door for less ENGLISH pounds)\, ride some big local routes\, drink\, eat in all of the pubs in the village. If the Woodbine (B&B) gets booked up there are campsites within the same village that I’ve used before that are good\, within a mile or so from the B&B so super easy post-pub wobble. \nThe riding is awesome. Sections like The Beast and the descent of Derwent are hard to beat\, and Cut Gate is simply one of the best pieces of natural singletrack the UK has to offer. Yes\, some of it is pretty tough riding\, but all skill levels are catered for. \nIf you’re keen\, let me know below so I can let Steve know. I don’t know where I’ll be staying yet myself as I have friends in the area that I can stay at\, but I do like camping… As an aside\, I will probably be organising a smaller trip using my friends as guides for some of the super-secret routes (read mega-gnarcore) around the area at some point. \nSteve’s bit: \n3 days of classic riding in the dark peak (off road) . \nArrive Thurs night at woodbine café b&b in Hope . dinner on way up as too late to book for food and will need to check in with b&b. Drinks in the old hall pub to meet up and refresh. \nFriday full days ride. After breakfast we’ll tackle the Ladybower reservoir route 24 miles 5 big climbs and descents 3756 ft of climbing\, highlights to include – the beast of hope cross\, Hagg farm\, Lockerbrook and the long wind down Derwent moor. Lunch stop at the reservoir visitor center\, about half way round and we can meet up with it twice if required. Optional loop tag on and take offs depending on fitness\, injury and most importantly what time the cafe closes. finishing back at the cafe for refueling. Dinner in the Cheshire cheese pub. \nSat full days ride. After breakfast we’ll tackle the mam tor route.to include Bradwell edge\, Cavedale\, cold side and Backtor farm with an optional tag on of Rushup edge and take offs if required. Generally speaking rockier and steeper than yesterday but with some road relive sections . With a climb up the old mam tor road. 20 Miles 3777 ft of climbing. Optional refreshments in Castleton.\n Or the possibility of an ice cream van at the top of mam tor\, but fairly self sufficient on this one. Back at the cafe again for refueling. Dinner in the poachers arms pub. \nSunday\, after breakfast\, pack up and drive out to Langsett to tackle the cut gate path\, an out and back route\, with some world class natural single track and superb views. Runs very differently both ways. 10 miles 1958 ft of climbing with optional tag on if needed and an extended route to a lunch stop if required – otherwise self sufficient. Pack up and go\, although the b&b will allow you back for a shower if you want it. \nThe important bits.\n Travelling up the night of the 10th of September 2015 Thursday\, and staying until the 13th September 2015 Sunday. Cost for b&b is £100 per head for the entire break deposit of £30 secures a place. Maximum no. of people is 14.
