SMBO Sunday 27th October – Hosted by GMBC – New Venue

Come join us on Sunday 27th October for what is being tipped “as the greatest round in SMBO history”. The concept is genius…mountain biking and orienteering in and around Mugdock Country Park and surrounding areas! Following on from the success of last years event, Glasgow Mountain Bike Club are hosting another round of Scottish Mountain Bike Orienteering  2019 Series bmbo.org.uk and promises to be a fun day out. Last year we hosted around 40 riders, and everyone came back with a smile on their face and splattered in mud.

The course takes in woodland, moors and even a castle. A mix of walkers’ paths, fire roads, some fun technical trails and hills mean the event is suitable for all abilities whether you just want to have fun or are looking for more of a challenge. This year we have changed the location/venue, it starts and finishes at the Kirkhouse Inn in Strathblane. It has ample parking and toilet/changing facilities and everyone entering gets soup, tea/coffee and a cake.

Registration will be open from 9.30am, and results and prize-winners announced from 2:30pm. And here’s a bonus, enter by the 20th of October and save 10% off the fee.

Using the marked-up maps provided, you start at the Inn and try and find as many checkpoints as you can in three hours. There’s no defined route, and checkpoints vary in distance, location and points!  The event is open to adults and children (children are required to be with a supervising adult). You can enter as a solo or a pair; we’ll give you a map showing the checkpoints and a dibber to check in at each checkpoint.

We have aimed to make the course fun for all, from first timers to experienced mountain bikers with lots of easily reachable checkpoints, along with some further afield for those looking for a challenge.  You can enter here: bmbo.org.uk We want to see as many of you enjoying the event as possible, this is a great opportunity to field a team of GMBC jersey-wearers, and highlight and promote the Club. There have been a number of club winners in previous years.

If you would prefer to help out we will need a couple of volunteers to help out on the day. Tasks include setting out & retrieving checkpoints & signage, directing people to registration and start points, a small amount of car park attendance (until event starts), course “marshalling”. If you have any questions about the event or if you can volunteer then please post below, on the GMBC Facebook page, or speak to Barry, Julie, Graham, Tom & Ian Godber.
