I was out with Andrew last night and we did the Dumgoyne loop. The house near the top of the climb (behind the distillery) near the pipe track is in the process of putting up a very secure gate. Get out quick if you want to do it for the last time.

Skye Easter Weekend
I was wondering if there was any interest in this idea? There was availability for Thursday 28March-Sunday 1April but not for either of the May day holidays at the Sligachan Bunkhouse http://www.sligachanselfcatering.co.uk/#/bunkhouse/4558326351. The cost is £16 per person per night, or £20 if linen is required. I thought it was worth going up on thursday night to get 3.5 days riding given the drive time. Sligachan is fairly central for the Skye Rides, there is a pub near by too. But if anyone has any other suggestions…………………
Ride suggestions welcomed too:
Sligachan out and back no to the gloopy loop
Glen Brittle
Quiraing at Staffin
McLeod’s Maidens on the west coast
To be discussed at Christmas night out when sober, if not post your thoughts. If there is interest I will start a list this sunday
Cheers Chris

Ben Vorlich & Ben Ledi – 25th Weekend
Ben Vorlich: http://www.flickr.com/photos/chrisbj/sets/72157631161839414/
It was a tough climb more or less straight out the blocks or for me a tough walk, though I have discovered a better way to carry the bike, wheels forward. The rocks are quite loose making it extra challenging. There is also no warm up in the descent, it is a straight down from the word go. We all made it down with not too much damage. Continue reading
Westie overnight
About a week ago I got an email from Finbarr to say that he was coming over from Ireland to do the Westie, leaving on thursday night and had bought a ticket for the sleeper train from FW on the Friday. So the die had been cast. I couldnt let him do it on his own so I enrolled trusty Al too. And the weather just got better, so that was a huge bonus. Continue reading

Tick alert
Up till 4 weeks ago I hadnt seen a tick, this is my third, so I thought I would share the little blighter. I am no expert but we are looking at it’s tail, it’s head is in my leg. This was the biggest and the most difficult one to remove cleanly. I really struggled with ordinary tweezers to twist it out so I have ordered the O’Tom tick tweezers that the Lyme Disease Association recommends http://www.lymediseaseaction.org.uk/ from the manufacturer http://.otom.com/how-to-remove-a-tick and there is a quaint little video, apparently is works on pets and partners. I will have 5 spare at $4.17 or £2.67 call it £2.50 if anyone is interested.
Alternatively don’t wear shorts or sleeveless tops

Wednesday away ride and leader suggestions
So far this year we have done: Dumgoyne ridge, Kilpatricks, Knockybuckle and Conic. Are there any other suggestions? Dumayat is on the list but it was done recently. Does anyone know the trails at Cambusbarron or Glenifer braes?
Ben Chonzie & Loch Turret circular adventure
- Loch Turret Dam with exit route at far end coming from the left
- the climb
- Loch Turret dam from the summit
- The lip, lochan and track in sight but not the bit in the middle
- at least the exit route was in view
- the odd cloud didnt spoil the day only the lack of a fast downhill did
- this photo simply does not do justice to the terrain
- a few scrapes and shoe sole in need of tlc
I discovered when buying suntan cream in Crieff I had only £7 cash and no plastic, not a good start. Continue reading
Ben Avon Bothy, Braemar 26+27 May
Sorry about short notice, but the weather looks settled and ideal for a bothy trip. All you need is a sleeping bag, food and utensils and usual bike stuff. I will bring a stove etc. Remember travel light as you will be carrying all your stuff both days. Who’s in?
