A Big Day Out – Angus Glens (Glen Clova)

August 13, 2016 @ 9:30 am - 5:00 pm

Location & route still TBC but most likely somewhere in highland Perthshire.  The exact plan will depend on the weather but if the conditions are good then it’ll hopefully involve some hike-a-bike and high mountains.  Definitely a 2-sandwich ride, maybe even a 3!!

NB: most likely it’ll not be a trail I’ve ridden before so (caveat emptor) expect map faff and vague descriptions of trails.

I’ve marked it as a “black” ride just now, based on expecting an arduous day out with technical trails and needing to be self-sufficient and confident in remoter areas.  Once I’ve reviewed route options I’ll post up more info.

If the weather is poor I’ll still try to get a longer ride in somewhere away from Glasgow.

  1. NB: the pin on the Google map above is not accurate, here’s the start point: http://www.clova.com/

The ride involves a short warm up then a climb up onto a moor before a descent and a ride up a glen on estate track. There’s a 2nd, steeper climb which could be muddy before we’re back onto moorland and looking forward to a good descent back into the glen.
    Take:
    – plenty of food & water
    – helmet, gloves & suitable clothing
    – a map if you have one (OS Explorer 388 or Landranger 44) & map case
    – charged mobile phone & camera
    – spares & tools for your bike

    Any questions then shout up.

  2. Graham – are folk going on this fabulous journey? I’m up for this, but need to know now for prep, if it is going ahead?

    • Hi Nigel, yes, there’s 3 of us heading up (Chris, Nick and myself). It’ll be a big day up in the hills with a steep final descent, you’ll need food, water and clothes for the weather. We’re meeting at Glen Clova Hotel, around 0930. Hopefully see you there.
