Away Ride – Mennock Pass

Hi,

Just for a change I thought I’d suggest a ride to a very scenic but seldom visited part of the Southern Uplands.  This is old lead mining country, so a really interesting and remote landscape and so long as we don’t fall down any old mine working will make a cracking day out.

The planned route would be around 30km starting at the Mennock pass and taking in the highest village in Scotland (Wanlockhead) and reaching up to 634m on East Lowther Hill. The total ascent is 1200m so will be a good day out.  The first half of the ride takes in open moor and fast grassy descents, before reaching Wanlockhead where there is cake stop potential. The riding from Wanlock head takes in some great singletrack descents.

Meet at the Mennock Pass car park, on the B797 between Wanlockhead and Mennock (see google map link) at 10am. Google streetview :
