Club Away Trip – Marthrown of Mabie – Fri 28th to Sun 30th Nov
November 28, 2014 - November 30, 2014
Hi folks,
Elizabeth has kindly booked us the famous Marthrown of Mabie bunkhouse for the end of Nov. This will be the last club away trip of 2014 and if it’s anything like last time…it’s destined to be a belter. The plan is to ride some of the 7 Stanes Trail Centres inc Mabie, Dalbeattie & Kirroughtree.
Spaces are limited so it’s a first come first served basis, priority is strictly given to paid club members. Number of places TBC, but If I recall approx 25 max. If you are keen to attend and not a paid member, please let me know and I’ll stick you on the reserves list. Alternatively, pay your subs ๐ Attending as a day tripper is also optional, again let us know and we can liaise nearer the time.
Original post with more info on pricing and how to pay for your place here: http://www.gmbc.org.uk/mabie-weekend-28th-to-30th-november/
More info on the accommodationย http://www.marthrownofmabie.com/folder-2-forest-bunkhouse
It’s worth having a look at that link, it gives you more info on sleeping arrangements, lets you know what is supplied and what you need to bring. I suggest you bring enough food for snacks & for the trails, same goes for hydration and don’t forget the beer! This is due to the nearest shops being a 30 min drive away.
We can decide on eating arrangements nearer the time, group cooking/wash up worked wonders before. Nigel’s lamb curry will never be forgotten, as is Gavin’s ability to eat the lot and not leave any for Graham. But we’ll not mention that…it’s still a sore point!
Please organise between yourselves for car sharing and remember to bring yer speedos…there’s a hot tub!
If you’re keen to attend please leave a comment on this calendar post or FB.
Confirmed so far; Elizabeth, Barry, Gavin, Richard Hb, Magdalena, Gary.
Shown interest/place being held; Thomas Wylie, Jim Lawrence, Eilidh, Grant, Sam and Graham.
If they confirm, that’s approx half of the bunkhouse filled already.
Remember peeps, it’s fastest fingers first, and if you’ve not yet paid your membership fee…you can’t reserve a place.

Hey guys, I’m completely new to the club and I’ve also just booked into the bunkhouse for the two nights. Looking forward to meeting you all and hitting the trails.
Nice one, hopefully see you on the local trails before then.
Hello
Just confirming I’ve received payment from the following people: Gavin, Will, Katie, Ryszard
Everyone else needs to pay ยฃ35 when we get there, except Angus, who has paid his deposit himself and just owes ยฃ24.
Can anyone offer me a lift from Glasgow?
And does anyone fancy a big cook-up on the Saturday night? I can bring some soup, if everyone wants to chip in with stuff. There is a good kitchen and massive dining table.
Really looking forward to it!
Hi Elizabeth, paid up now. I’ll contribute to food, maybe a stew or casserole of some kind. It won’t feed everyone though. We need volunteer cake-providers and custard stirrers too! ๐
Hi Elizabeth, I won’t be coming along anymore unfortunately. I’ll be along to the following intro night ride though. Sorry about that, I’ve let Marthrown know just now.
I can give you a lift Elizabeth – as long as Tony has a look at my car beforehand… Happy to chip in with bringing/buying food and cooking, just not recipes!!
That would be great thanks Gavin. I can get the train out your way if that helps, just let me know where to meet.
James, I think there will be space. Probably easiest if you phone Mathrown of Mabie yourself. We are in the bunkhouse. Hope to see you there!
Elizabeth
Hi,
Rather than doing different things, how about one big “Cook-Up” as Elizabeth suggests? I am going to be off on the Friday, so can go shopping for a curry for all- probably only work out about ยฃ3 a head. Would expect choppers and other helpers during the cooking mind!
Maybe someone else could do a one dish dessert too?
Can folks say if they happy with this, and if we have any veggies going…..
Sounds good Sam, 3 bucks has got to be good vfm in anyone’s books! Happy to have veggie curry as long as there’s chicken in it… ๐
Communal meal always seems to work well. More than happy to pitch in on preparation or whatever else needs doing.
Curry for all sounds good. Happy to offer my chopper services. I’ll get my coat.
Any spaces left in the bunkhouse?
Might be able to get that weekend off work = can ride FRI>SUN and I have a big estate, 4 folk + 4 mtbs + 4 folk’s gear can fit in.
On the topic of cars, what’s happening for transport? I have the Friday off and am planning on doing one of the other centres on the way (maybe glentress as I’ve not been there yet). If anybody wants an extra ride and doesn’t mind terrible driver karaoke, let me know!
Hi. Regarding a plan for the weekend’s riding, can I suggest the following? (by no means set in stone, just throwing it out there, happy to go with the flow and see what the weather’s doing, anyhoo…).
Saturday (early start): head to Dalbeattie (30mins away), ride the trail there (red grade 25km or blue 14km). Then head back to Mabie to ride there – means we finish there with a cold beer and a hot shower. If you don’t fancy more riding then there’s the skills area, the possibility of doing half a loop at Mabie (red 19km, blue 10km) or chilling out at the hostel.
Sunday: pack up and head to Kirroughtree (just over 1 hr away). There’s a blue (10-14km), a red (17km) or the black+red option (31km) at KT. Just over 2hours drive back to Glasgow.
There might be some closures and diversions because of forestry operations but there should still be plenty of options for everyone.
Is anyone going to be getting there early afternoon? Just so I can tell Pam what time to expect people to arrive. Think we will be there around 6.30pm.
Hi. I spoke to Pam at the hostel. She said it’s OK to bring your sleeping bags or duvets but if you forget or prefer you can use theirs. The provide a pillow & case. Bring a towel.
Just popped a cake in the oven!
I’m working till 10pm tomorrow night in Glasgow so I won’t be arriving till late. I’m happy to chip in for food/help cook … & always keen for a curry ๐ looking forward to catching up with everyone. X
Hmmm, caaaaaaake! ๐
