Dumyat Night Ride & Pub Trip

April 4, 2014 @ 6:30 pm - 10:00 pm

  • Where:  Bridge of Allan train station car park – accessible from Glasgow without a car in this case.
  • When: 6:30pm
  • What to expect:  Fairly stiff climbing to start with, woodland singletrack heading up on to Dumyat with some short, steep technical sections.  Parts of the route can be wet but large chunks of the ride are through woodland so should be a bit drier and sheltered.  It could be a bit breezy on top but hopefully we’ll catch the sunset over the Forth valley.
  • Dumyat is classic Scottish mountain biking; open moorland, some steep/rocky sections up top and big views (hopefully).  After the climb there’s a fun descent (steep & technical in places, flowy in others) and we’ll be down quickly to an awesome pub stop with options for ice cream, chips, beer and hopefully plenty of banter!  Maybe worth packing a small lock for the pub stop.
  • The pub is less than 10mins cycle back to the station.
  • Distance probably about 25-30km, duration roughly 3 hours.  If you can’t stay for the full ride the are various options to bail out
  • As usual, no helmet, no ride

  1. I really fancy this if I can get away from work on time.
Train from Glasgow takes about 50 minutes,so the 17.17pm from Queen Street will arrive in BOA for 18.10pm.
Anyone else planning on getting the train through from Glasgow?

  2. Hi Gary – I’ll be through earlier in the day so will see you at the station car park.

  3. I’m up for this Graham. I’m probably just going to drive, so if anyone needs a lift from / back to Glasgow let me know.

  4. Tom,
I work in the city centre and was planning to drive through, but happy to scadge a lift and chip in for petrol money.

I work at Blytheswood Sqaure but can meet you anywhere? What time you planning on leaving?

    Gary

  5. Hi, at the moment it looks like Friday will be wet during the day but a bit drier in the evening. At this point I reckon it’ll still be worth having a pop at it. To that end I’ve phoned ahead to the pub and told them to expect some grubby bikers about 9/9:30pm. It’s OK with th pub for us to drop bike locks off at the pub before we head up the hill.

  6. Gutted! Unfortunately I won’t make this as I’m up early Saturday for a wedding. Enjoy, as the last time we did this it was a blast. The BOA brewery was amazing too!

  7. Tom,

I’ll probably just bring my car into work and drive straight from here, saves any messing about getting to Anniesland.

    See you all at 6.30.

    • Hi, weather report from Stirling, dry, some grey cloud, top of Dumyat is just about visible, river Allan is in full flow so I’d expect the ground to be wet.

  8. Catalogue of errors looks to hamper me.if I’m not at boa station for 6_6:30 don’t wait…..just need to do it again with more daylight less rain, mist, sogg etc…summer???? Views fantastic on clear summer night stick it on calendar again in couple of months.
