Away Ride- Sunday 5th July – Loch Tay

July 5, 2015 @ 10:30 am - 4:00 pm

As we need to make the most of the good weather this week, I am putting this rie bakc on nthe calender for a 2nd attempt (rained off last time). Weather looks likeit mgiht be showery, but warm.

Route is ideally suited for cross bikes as its about half and half road/off road, but I reckon you could do it on a mtb or even a touring bike. The off-road section is quite mixed between tracks and some bumpy stuff.  Not really one for a road bike however.

Meet point is one of the 3 lay-bys at Newton Bridge, about 5 miles out of Crieff towards Dunkeld (The Sma’Glen).

First section is 16 miles off road cutting through a glen, then about 5km of single track (through a field) then back onto rough track with a fast descent down to Loch Tay. From here, we join the Sustrans Route 7 and travel about 6 miles on tarmac to lunch for a stop in Kenmore. There are few places to get food if you want to travel light.

Staying on tarmac we climb 500m  towards Glen Quaich and another 16 miles arrive at Amurlee, then a fast ride back to cars.

Total distance about 45miles, and ride time about 4-5 hours.
