SMBO 12th April 2014

As mentioned at the AGM, we’re pleased to announce that GMBC will be hosting the 1st round of the Scottish Mountain Bike Orienteering Spring League on Saturday 12th April. We are hosting this event for a second year, and it’s shaping up to be a great event with the new club facilities at Milngavie and Bearsden Sports Club playing host.
If you are unfamiliar with MTB orienteering (formerly known as Trailquest) the objective is to visit as many of the 30 checkpoints as possible within the 3 hour time limit.  The event is within a defined area and a map and list of checkpoints will be provided on the day. It’s up to you which route you ride and which checkpoints you visit in order to accrue as many points within the 3 hours.
The event is open to adults and children over the age of 15 (or over the age of 12 as part of a generation’s team). You can enter as a solo or a pair. There will be a fantastic selection of prizes & spot prizes for competitors provided by SMBO and our new sponsors Dales Cycles. The event is now available to enter via this BMBO page. www.bmbo.org.uk/calendar/details.php?event_id=530

Prices to enter the event are as follows:
£15 BMBO solo
£16 day rider solo
£5 youth solo
£5.00 discount for adult teams and generations
Enter before 13/3/2014 and receive a 10.00% discount

All entrants must be a full or day-rider member of the BMBO. Basic membership is free but has an additional £1 surcharge on entering the event. Just go to: http://www.bmbo.org.uk/membership-information/
Given our connection with the area and the fact it’s a local venue for a lot of us it would be great to see a strong representation from GMBC riders. Do you reckon you could get a podium finish or challenge some of your fellow GMBCers?
We want to see as many of you enjoying the event as possible but if you would prefer to help out we will need a couple of volunteers to help out on the day. Tasks include setting out & retrieving checkpoints & signage, directing people to Sign On and start points, a small amount of car park attendance (until event starts), course “marshalling” (marshalling is not official or static but it would be good to have a few folks to ride around the course area during the event to keep an eye out for any problems).
Last years event was a great opportunity to promote our club by putting on a fun event catering for a wide variety of riders and abilities. It’s as competitive as you want to make it and you can join up checkpoints using trails you know (within the boundaries and restrictions of the course map).
If you have any questions about the event or if you can volunteer then please contact smbo@gmbc.org.uk or speak to Stuart, Jack, Ruairidh or Barry

See you on the trails,
