Hi,
Thanks to everyone who expressed an intrest in this trip. Apologies for the delay in following up the accomodation, too much biking and work going on.
The best bet seems to be the camping pods at Broddick Castle. There are two large 4 person pods available that weekend and I have provisionally booked them. They look pretty luxurious as these things go, and have full use of the facilities at the nearby lodge (read more here if you want). Cost of £45 per pod per night, so if we have 8 people it’ll be £11 per night, or £15 if we have 3 in each etc. Accomodation will be for Friday night (6th Sep) and Saturday (7th).
Brodick is the ideal place to base ourselves for the biking, and it’s close to the ferry so no need to take cars accross.
Can you please contact me if you’re definitely coming by this Monday so I can confirm the booking. I will need to pay in full when I confirm the booking so you’ll need to pay me in advance.
I had eight people express an interest originally, so they get first shout on places. If you are interested get in touch anyway and see if anyone drops out. On the list so far:
Elizabeth, Sam, Graham, Robin, James, Ieva, Sam & Me.
Grant (seperate accomodation) and Barry was a maybe, plus others for a day ride.
Looking forward to it already!
Tom
Tom,
I won’t make it unfortunately, best I can hope for is popping over on the sunday morning to join up for a ride.
Greg.
Hi
I am still interested in coming along, well done organising.
Hi Tom – excellent – I’m in, both nights. Should be a great weekend.
Hi,
sorry, I’m going to have to say no now as had an unplanned cost- have just had to shell out for a new car! I’ll try and come for a day trip though, either saturday or sunday depending what your route plans are. Still strongly suggest Cock of Arran ride if its a nice weather.
Sam
After looking at the price for getting the car on the ferry (ouch!) I’m now thinking of just making it for a day ride.
I fancy doing Goat Fell, but realise some have done it relatively recently.
I’d quite like to do it again with less snow! It’s not really a day ride though, in good conditions it’s 1.5hrs up and 30mins down, unless you ditch the bike and walk the last bit to the top just to say you’ve been. It might be one for the Saturday evening if anyone has any energy left, if you tried it during the day you’d probably end up mowing down a group of children on their holidays and end up featuring in a two page Daily Mail mtb’er terror spread.
Hey Tom,
I won’t be able to make the Sunday, forgot I have the cycle Scotland on Sunday and I’m night shift Sunday night! I will make the Saturday for a day trip though. If no one can take my place I will pay any cost for accommodation. cheers for organising the trip!
James.
I’m interested in the full weekend if a space has openned up?
Cheers,
Eilidh
Eilidh, I think there may have been spaces anyway. If you email Tom/Tom will maybe be along in a minute to say.
Cheers Robin, Tom has been in touch & I’d like to take one of the free spaces for the full weekend. Just let me know who I owe money to & how much.
Eilidh
Hi, I’m planning on making it over for a day trip on the Saturday – 7.00hrs ferry over. Anyone else doing the same. Cheers, Alden
There’s 6 or 7 of us coming over on the 0945 ferry on Sunday, plan is to do the cock of Arran in reverse (far better IMO) then up and over the boguillie road to glen Sannox, and scale the saddle into glen rosa. Every chance we won’t make the 1640 ferry home, if anyone wants to join us, feel free.
Greg.
Hi Greig – what’s it like going over the Saddle? Looks crazy on the map.
It’s a bit hairy to be honest, not one for anyone who’s not good with heights. Last time we did it, we formed a sort of rolling chain, and handed the bikes up, as you need two hands available at some parts.
Great, big lumpy rocky descent on the other side though, and awesome views of both U shaped valleys on either side.
Greg.
Possibly a wee change of plan, not going to bother with the cock of Arran, going to head from ferry up to Sannox, up glen Sannox, over the saddle and down glen rosa, then a quick up n down goat fell, as we now need to get the 1640 ferry back.
2 climbs, 2 descents, and much less road work.
