Cyclocross Ride on sunday (tomorrow) Ardgarten Penisula + Corriegrogan

Hi all – Happy New Year.

Ryz and I are heading out tom on the crossbikes around the Ardgarten Peninsula tomorrow, we might also take in the corrigrogan loop which is short jaunt down the road on the bikes from the argarten penisular to take in a hilly fun 13 mile trail which starts from the base of the Ben Narnain/Cobbler car park after completion of the Ardgarten Peninsula (provided am still alive)
This is my first proper post festive ride so am likely to be like a snails pace. As always any company very welcome especially if they’re willing to push me up the big hills 🙂
Aim to ride at 10am from the Ardgarten Car Park just past Arochar car parks for Cobbler and Narnain.

I’ll check the link again later this evening

Aviemore Re-Vist for 2012

Hi all,
There is a place up in Nethy Bridge called the Mountain Bear Lodge. I’ve been wanting to stay in it for ages now but as in the name its a BIG lodge, suitable for groups and sleeps 16.

It is absolutely gorgeous inside and poses total luxury, complete with outside hot tub, indoor jacuzzi and sauna and has also an outdoor BBQ hut (aka Grillkota). This is not your average bear accommodation!!!!

There is a discount week available for Friday 14 September, making it £18.75 pppn, total cost £131 for a weeks holiday in MTB (hill walking) heaven. I wont go into just how much biking (walking) there is around this area – I think the success of the recent Aviemore trip proved that! I just wondered if there would be any interest in this mega fun trip up north?

More information on the lodge and lots of pictures here;

The downside is we need to pay the balance on booking because it is a discount week. But if anyone was interested shout up and we might have a bigger better GMBC Aviemore week away!

Oak Tree Inn 28th Jan

Hi GMBC,

Do you fancy a social ride spanning two days?,

Do you fancy an 11am (ish) Saturday Morning start getting to your destination on pure pedal power alone?

Do you fancy staying in a bunkroom or twin bedroom for 50 % discount including a full english breakie the next day before mtb home again?(Bunkroom pp £15, Twin bedroom pp £18.75)

Most importantly do you fancy a slap up meal  and some ales n beers in an award winning Gastro Pub of the Year?

If you answered Yes then heres the details,

28th Jan – Sat am. leave Stewart Street Car Park with a little adventure bag packed with your overnight kit (Party pants, Hairdryers, Straightners optional) leave along the west highland way – playing whatever trails take our fancy en route to Balmaha – mandatory tea stop in Drymen – or pub for those requiring dutch courage for the descent off Conic Hill. Arrive Balmaha just as the sunsets and into the pub for another mandatory durty beer before a wash and some dinner. Relax, socialise and sleep ready to do it all in reverse the following day.

There are 4 spaces in the bunkroom and there are 5 twin rooms available. Roll Call so far; Graham A, Barry, Tony, Gerry, Alison, Phil, John, Sam, Davie, Lorna, myself and Ryszard. I will need to get back to Oak Tree Inn tom (25 Nov) at 5pm to give them an idea of how many are coming – short notice I know sorry! So those who are interested can you get back to me asap. 🙂

If you need anymore convincing check out the website http://www.oak-tree-inn.co.uk/

Cheers,

DD

Long weekend in Aviemore?

Hi All,

Last November a few of us took advantage of Barry’s Dad’s timeshare in Aviemore. This year we unfortunatly don’t have the timeshare but that shouldn’t stop us going up!

I was thinking Friday 4th – 7th Nov. Ideally we’d look at bunkhouse accomodation trying to keep cost low.  Aviemore is always busy and books up well in advance so it be good to get things booked sooner rather than later. I’ve looked at Aviemore Bunkhouse which is about £17 per night per person in a dorm. If there were decent amount of us we could just get dorms booked out just to us.

Ryz and I were up there over the weekend and came across even more cracking singletrack on Feshie Moor and in my wee head I am now busy putting routes together which will give us decent open cross country routes and take in as much singletrack as possible. Am burstin to get back up there now!

The club has been up here a few times and its always been a good laugh.

So if anyone is up for it then shout up! The sooner I know numbers the sooner we can get something booked.

Alternatively if the date doesn’t suit most of those that are interested and another one suits better then we could change it.
