Away Ride Saturday 11 August – Glencoe?

Hi,

Does anyone fancy doing a good away ride next Saturday? I was thinking of starting in Glencoe, up the Devil’s Staircase, along the Blackwater Dam, Ciaran Path to Kinlochleven and back via WHW. So it would be a reasonably tough day out and plenty of opportunity to drag brakes and mince down steep slopes.

  1. Tom, might be up for this, just waiting to hear back about another couple of things. Have you ridden it before? I’ve done it a couple of times and makes for a decent day out.

  2. It is a great ride, did it last October when my bolt dropped out and had a long walk back over to Devils Staircase, so would like a re-match. However doing Westie with Al and friend coming over from Ireland on thursday/friday but I need to be back early on saturday

  3. I haven’t done it Dene, I gather the Ciaran path and Devil’s staircase are pretty tough decents.

Is Sunday better for you guys? I can do either day really.

  4. I’m definitely keen for this. Saturday better for me as I’m supposed to be doing a road race Sunday.

  5. Its trickier than the descent you did down Ben Lomond Tom. Bigger rocks, more challenging climbs and flat out blasting. It is however much more fun. Saturday is the better day for me.

  6. Count me in Tom. Please let us know details regarding start location & time etc.

  7. Ok looks like a ride coming together.

I guess it’s got potential to be quite a long day out so does anyone object to a 9am meet at the Glencoe Ski Centre? Aim to have wheels turning by 9:30. It would be good to share lifts up, I’m happy to drive can take me + 2.

Can we stick this on the calender?

  8. Wouldn’t we be better to meet at the layby at the foot of the devil’s staircase (opposite the carpark for the Buchaille). The ski centre is really quite far away from there (3miles?). 9am totally fine by me. Happy with earlier too if that suits other people, I don’t mind. Barry or Tom, I would love to get a lift from either of you. I promise I will return all these lifts one day but I know Neil needs the car on Saturday!

  9. This is an awesome ride, can’t do Saturday this week but plan to head up there soon on a Sunday – enjoy. It is possible to ride pretty much all the way back through Glencoe on trails too, starting at Clachaig Inn – good point to get some ‘refreshment’ too 🙂

  10. Okay then, meeting at the layby at Altnafeadh at 9am Sat. It’s a 2hr journey by car from the city centre. Elizabeth, your more than welcome to get a lift. I could collect you from outside Alpine Bikes St George’s rd at 6.45am. Let me know if this is okay? O7seven6six4six3three6nine.

  11. Added to events now that I worked out how:

Barry – I’m just down the road from Alpine. Could we manage 3 in your car or I’m happy to take the van?

  12. You guys still on for this? Give me a shout on 07sevenzero9three0six1seven0.
