Birnam Ride

Miserable weather and snow piled up didn’t deter nine hardy GMBCers from this ride IMG_20140215_200439today. The biting northerly wind kept the faff to a minimum and we managed to get off riding from Birnam just after 10.

The vague plan was to head to Loch Ordie and explore some other trails on the way out and back. Rather than take the easy route we followed some singletrack up Craig a Barns which turned out to be really nice, if a little slippy in places. The views were great and the old Scots pines made a pleasant change from the usual commercial forest. In the snowy conditions Loch Ordie was a bit far to reach so instead we went for a spin around the invitingly named Rotmell Woods. There were some good downhills but the recent rain and snow meant that there were plenty of hub deep slushy puddles. The sun did come out at this point so things balanced out a bit.

The cafe at Birnam Arts Centre stopped serving soup at 2:30pm so the duration of the ride was set by this and the frozen feet. All in it was a good day to be out and a top cafe stop to finish!

Great day out…with good riding and company. Think this has helped me to get over January lethargy!
