Dumgoyne Loop – get out quick before it is closed off

I was out with Andrew last night and we did the Dumgoyne loop. The house near the top of the climb (behind the distillery) near the pipe track is in the process of putting up a very secure gate. Get out quick if you want to do it for the last time.

  1. Hi Chris,

Wouldn’t get too worried about it. That’s a Core Path and he can’t stop walkers, cyclists from using it. In fact he’d be braking the law. It’s probably just to stop unauthorised vehicles and I’m sure there’ll be a pedestrian gate or something to the side. If not we just get on to the Access Officer at Stirling Cooncil!

  2. Just checked the Council’s website – the bit of track between the A81 and the Water Board road isn’t a Core Path. However there is a CP to the other (east) side of the distillery, up the grassy field that can be used. I’ll maybe drop an email to the Access Officer just to see what the situation is with this new gate…

  3. Got a reply from the Access Officer at Stirling Council – the landowner was in touch with her in early 2012 about the installation of the gate and to cut a long story short, there should be a suitable gap to the side of the gate to allow access by foot/bike. So all’s good. If there’s a problem we’ve to let her know.

  4. I got the same reply from Scotways yesterday, there is also an agreed official (core) access route a bit further south that will be signposted at some point in the future, so I’m sure we could try that as as alternative to see how it rides.

The Heritage Paths project is focussing on the Campsie area at present. Here’s a link to the project’s website in case that’s of interest to anyone who rides in the area: http://www.heritagepaths.co.uk/campsiefell.php
