Postponed: Away Ride – Pitlochry
February 22, 2014 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm
Update: I’m suggesting to postpone this ride and I’m planning to tie in with Graham’s ride from Arrochar. the Arrochar route is much better surfaced and better suited to minging weather. I’ve done the Pitlochry ride in a variety of conditions and I reckon we could have the unholy trinity of lashing rain, slushy snow and high winds this weekend. It’s a great loop but a lot better in frosty conditions or after fresh snow. I’ll post it up for the following month.
Meet up at Escape Route at 10am.
We can decide on the route depending on the conditions, however my initial plan is:
Head up around Loch Bhac, or some variation on that loop. It’s a fantastic ride with a great mixture of trails. The route starts off in the wooded valleys before climbing up to a wee loch (Loch Bhac). There’s then a section across open moors with great views to Cairngorms and Perthshire hills. It’s a fairly long ride (60ish km), so requires reasonable fitness. There are some singletrack section but overall the riding isn’t technically difficult.
Any question please ask.
This sounds great. I’ll be there.
Incidentally, it doesn’t appear to say on the post who posted the ride. Just wondered.
Nigel
Hi Nigel, I think it was Tom who posted this one up.
Yep it was me! Forgot to add organiser details
Cheers. Just remembered I might have to be in Edinburgh that day. Would also have to build up more fitness to cope with the pace. Will post again if I am coming, but if not have a good ay chaps!
sounds good will there be a coffee stop?
Interested in this for saturday. 5 day forecast says sunshine and 5c+ which should be good.
I can get 4 people + bikes in & on (total inc me) my car if people want to jump in to help save on costs.
Driving from byres road/west end
Nigel, Fraser and James,
I’ve added an update to this. I’m planning on joining Graham’s ride on Saturday it’ll be a lot more fun given the recent and forecast weather. The riding around Pitlochry is great but I reckon some of the high bits will be a no go this weekend (slush, rain & wind). Hope to reschedule next month.
Tom
No worries Tom! Last weekend there was only a bit of snow/slush but it made for slow going, I think we managed 12 miles in 3 hours, sunny though!
Thanks Tom. Am in Edinburgh on the Saturday anyway. See you all on another ride – will try to make the Appin Forest ride. Cheers.
