OK, who’s got ride suggestions for the weekend away? We need a selection of stuff to suits various interests/abilities/weather.
Gav – you said there were some guides in What MTB this month – did you get a copy then?
Does anyone want to share a lift for Ballater? I can take 1 person and 1 dismantled bike or if you have a bigger car I’ll go half on the petrol with you!
cheers
jack
Transport! I can drive and take two others (3 bikes on the roof) or happy to jump in with someone else. I’m based in the Westend.
Hi Rob,
I’m leaving westend too. I’m happy to drive/jump in. What times/days are you planning on travelling? My ideal would be leaving Fri. afternoon and returning post-ride Monday.
Hi Sounds good!
I was going to take the Friday off work and head up in the morning – but I am equally happy to work and save the days holiday and leave in the afternoon. Coming back on Monday – post ride. Give me a ring to sort out who’s driving etc.

Cheers,
Rob
Lift-wise my car’s now full (a cycling mate of mine from Leicester wants to join us, he’ll be on a CX/road bike thing).
Any space in any cars? Or does any one want a lift?
Hi Rob – try Jack?
Sorry but i’m getting a lift with SimonC. My cars not great on long drives especially not if it’s hot.
FOOD- I know Graham started this chatter via yahoo group, but thought I’d post here… as the kitchen at Habitat is quite small, I think we need to consider some options for evening meals. lunches and brekkies always seem to be fine, but if we all come back after a hard day’s riding (oo-er) we are porbably not going to want to have to wait to eat… I am going to offer up cooking one of the nights- a big curry which can be veggie if need be. Do we have this friday night, find somewhere to eat out saturday night, then find another option for sunday?
Sam
Suggestion. Do what we did at Grantown?
Friday – fend for yourselves (people turn up at different times as not everyone has Friday off). Get settled in the hostel, review bike routes for Saturday.
Saturday – head to a local pub that can cater for us in shifts as we come back in dribs and drabs from the different rides and will anyone doing a big ride feel like cooking for 20 that night? Or is trying to get 20 folks into a pub on Easter weekend a big ask, even in shifts?
Sunday – cook in the hostel, a nice meal in on the last night, everyone pitches in to chop, cook, tidy up, wash, dry.
Sam – a curry sounds ace, could a veggie curry be “meatified” (ie. cook it veggie then put a portion aside for the veggies and then add meat to the rest?). Rice, naan/pitta bread, job done. Nigel has a good recipe for lamb curry – I might even get to sample some this time (the last time he made it I got 1 ladle of the dregs). Everyone chips in to cover the cost.
Lunches & breakfasts: again, fend for yourselves, if folks want to organise themselves with shared sandwich fillings or bacon rolls for breakkie then that’s fine.
If everyone can contribute one of the following: crisps/beer munchies, cake, home baking or wine/beer to a communal pile then that should should spread the load and keep us well supplied for the weekend.
Howzat?
