  1. Sounds great, I’m planning on coming along. Anyone fancy a lift (or giving me a lift)?

  2. Hi Graham – Am planning to come along on this one (all of it this time!), especially the pub stop. Grant, – I’ll be based in Dunblane for this weekend so sorry I can’t offer a lift.

    Hi,
John and I are in for this one. Assuming the weather is favourable. Always try to do one Perthshire ride in the autumn, as it is just stunning up there!

So, with our expert navigator currently recovering in the south, do we cancel this trip or does anyone else wish to navigate?

    • Woah there, no slacking off coz I’m not about!! 🙂 Chris J might be in the area that weekend and he was also on the test run a few weeks ago. I can describe the route to anyone who’s interested.

      • Hi Graham – good to hear from you – get well soon! Weather forecast for Saturday in Pitlochry area doesn’t look to bad at the mo, but things are very changeable. If some folk are going, I’d be up for a ride, pub stop etc. Would be good to see people as haven’t been on too many rides lately. I have an Explorer OS map for the area and would be happy to have a bash at navigation if you are able to give details of the route Graham, but don’t go out of your way. I don’t have interactive, hollodeck, matrix enhanced sat nav sort of stuff though! Just some occasional stops to look at the map…..

        • Hi Nigel, I’ll see what I can do. Just so you know, we had an email from a new rider who might be interested in joining us. The original route is probably a bit much for a beginner so I’d suggest speaking to Escape Route bike to get advice on the best trails. I emailed the new rider and asked if she’d like to be put in touch with those riding this weekend. If she is I’ll put you in touch.

    Nigel,

Just so you know, we’re bailing on this ride, partly due the very unsettled weather, but also because it will be very wet on the moor to even ride after this much rain. If you do fancy an easier ride up that way, I’d suggest Queens Drive/Loch Ordie from Dunkeld- it is mainly on surfaced forest road, with options to do some nice single track, but this will be muddy!!

  6. OK Sam and Graham – Sam thanks fro the conditions update and other info. In the absence of word from Chris and Grant, and only me on at the moment, I’ll make my first ever GMBC excutive decision as effemeral ride leader and bail. Probably not worth me and (possibly) just one other driving to Dunkeld mainly for forest road, or to Pitlochroy for lots of mud. I reckon discretion is the better part of valour here, especially with the changing weather. Hope this is OK – Nigel

  7. I don’t think the moor would be too bad. I was surprised how dry it was on our ride a few weeks ago, the only wet places were a few streams. Tomorrow it would be somewhat worse but after this dry summer soil still has high absorbing capacity.

We are planning going to Dalguise for some orienteering on Sunday. It is close to Pitlochry if anyone fancies a 4 hour ride. Colours are at their best in Perthshire now, I can see over the border through my bedroom window from Fife!
