Skye Easter Weekend

March 28, 2013 @ 6:00 pm - April 1, 2013 @ 5:00 pm

Here is the final booking list:SkyeEasterBooking-04_03_13 (1)

Thurday 28March-Monday 1April  Sligachan Bunkhouse http://www.sligachanselfcatering.co.uk/#/bunkhouse/4558326351.

The cost is £16 per person per night, or £20 if linen is required.

I thought it was worth going up on thursday night to get 3.5 days riding given the drive time. Sligachan is fairly central for the Skye Rides, there is a pub near by too.

More ride suggestions welcomed, rough ideas so far and subject to weather/change/input:

Friday: Quiraing loop at Staffin 20km 3hrs (30miles/45mins from Sligachan) plus something else?

Saturday: Durinish Peninsula – McLeod’s Maidens on the west coast 42km 6-8hrs (20miles 30mins from Sligachan) see: DurnishPeninsula

Sunday: Glen Sligachan to Elgol out and back no to the Strath Mor gloopy loop 35km 4-5hrs

Monday: Glen Brittle 25km 3-4hrs (plus 20km/2hr fire road loop around Glen Brittle forest to Loch Eynort or Coire Lagan 9km/90mins) or something else?

Kyleakin 4km loop on way over or home http://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/next-time-youre-in-skye-mini-mtb-track-pics

  1. Hi Chris, we are thinking of going to Skye that weekend, we would stay with a friend in Portree. Will keep in touch and try to meet up, you have my mobile no. Tim

  2. Hi Chris – balance now paid up.

  3. Hi Chris, balance also paid. Please let me know if you receive the payment twice…malfunction with online banking. Thx.

  4. I’m car sharing and bringing Ryszard with me on the Friday. We’ll leave early Friday and aim to get an afternoon ride or walk in. Then two big riding days for us (Sat & Sun).

I’m happy with Grahams suggestions regarding food. I’m happy for a communal feast on Friday and eating out Sat & Sun. I’ll be heading home on Monday am, so won’t need food. I’m happy to chop, prepare & cook food, as I’m allergic to washing up! I’ll bring a “homemade” cake from the shops.

There’s 16 folk coming, one with a peanut allergy. I’m not too fussy with food, whether it’s a veg or meat feast. I’ll bring some chilli con carne “proper homemade”, although the portion won’t feed everyone, and some Tesco Finest horse burgers for the adventurous!

  5. Happy for communal cooking/shopping also! Though will opt out of chilli…will bring some pasta for then instead. Looking forward to the weekend 🙂

  6. Last instructions for Skye, next weekend
Hopefully you have all got your transport organised. My car an Simon’s van are in the garage this week and plan B in the pocket.
    Dont forget your…………….
    linen,
    breakfast and lunch stuff,
it looks like it is going to remain cold too!
    Friday – Haggis and neaps
    Saturday – Sligachan Hotel
    Sunday – Carbonara
Entry to bunkhouse from 4.00pm and departure by 10.00am. Keys for bunkhouse should be collected from reception at Sligachan Lodge and returned there on leaving.
    Looking forward to it already
    Chris

  7. I will bring the food basics eg tea, coffee, milk, sugar, butter and washing up stuff

  8. Right, so, I said I would make a cake. Graham suggested Becky make a cake, but I did it…

The good news is that it does taste OK.

The bad news is that getting them out the cake tins has been somewhat less successful. I’ve done one half of the cake so far and it looks a bit ‘post modern’ (i.e. not round, not in one piece.).

I think it should now be considered more a tray bake type thing. Might be good with cream or ice cream though.

    p.s. yes, I’m typing as I bake.

  9. Thanks again for letting us tag along for the Skye weekend. It was a pleasure to meet all of you, everyone’s so friendly and welcoming. Fay really enjoyed herself too. I hope I’m able to come out for a ride soon! Betty

  10. Hi fellow Skye Trippers

Apologies for taking so long to share my gratitude in joining the GMBC on my/our (Betty and Fay inc.) first trip. It was a great weekend for a whole variety of reasons but principally due to the welcoming and inclusive nature of everyone.

I have a few bruises as a kind reminder of the excellent riding and a chainring that is missing a few teeth as a reminder that the rocks on Skye are made of tough stuff.

Thanks for a great time and look forward to the next one.

    Nick
