Fife weekend

As a new Fifer I would like to organise a GMBC weekend here. There are plenty diverse options for riding: the Lomond hills, Pitmeden forest, bits of Fife coastal path, Falkland downhill freeride trails and many more.

I would suggest the 9-11th of August as the family I stay with will be still away. Then we will be able to use 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, 2 living rooms and a big kitchen. But it can be a later date as well. The family is really cool and enjoy having people around. Only the last weekend of August is not an option and I will be away in the middle of September.

It is an 80 min drive from Glasgow. The house at the foot of the Lomond hills, just before Leslie. There are plenty beds and mattresses but you should bring sleeping bags. The deal includes breakfast: the fruity oat porridge and eggs from our own hens. The big kitchen is ideal for the communal cooking and there is a grand piano in the living room if someone wants some entertainment. I would suggest to have a honesty box to thank the family.

Let me know who is interested and what you think about the dates. The next weekend would be ideal. Tom cannot make it then but  I have little sympathy, as I am not invited to join his mob.

  1. Great place to go riding, hope you get a good weekend for it.

  2. Hi Ieva – Sounds great and I’m interested to see the riding there but I might struggle to make that particular weekend. I won’t know until closer to the time but there’s a chance I could make it along for a day ride on the Saturday. If it’s on another weekend then let me know and I’ll see if I can make it along.

  3. Similar to Graham, I could probably make the Saturday day ride. I’ll confirm soon.

    Thanks for organising a trip.

  4. I’d be interested in coming over for a day ride.

  5. Count me and Gerry in too! Probably we’d either go for a day ride on saturday or stay over sat night. fife coastal path looks nice.

  6. Then let’s make it a day ride and anyone who’d like to do more is welcome to come earlier or stay longer. I have half day off on Friday and could ride from 2ish.

What time do you want to start on Saturday? Lomond hills (gets my vote) or Fife coastal path?

  7. This sounds great. I can make 9th to 11th August, and Lomond Hills or the other options sound fantastic. And fresh eggs for breakfast too! Must be a really cool family you are staying with……

    Hi,
I’d be up for a day ride too. Sunday wouldbe be better for me, could also do saturday if a sensible start time (e.g. no earlier that 10am, as got a works leaving do on friday!!) as seems like more consensus.
Where would the meet up be for Lomond Hills? I’m thinking this may be easier from a logisitically, unless you planning to do coastal path as an out n’ back?

  9. Sounds like a day ride is the most popular option, we’ll go for this too! We’d be up for the Lomond Hills , but could only do the saturday (have to be back in Glasgow on Sunday). Thanks for organising Ieva!

  10. Then it’s Saturday! 10 am start from the farmhouse. Google maps gives wrong directions and I would rather send directions by email. Do we have an option for private messages on wordpress? Facebook otherwise?

If anyone fancies, we can still do another ride on Friday afternoon or evening. Pitmeden forest would be a good place to go. The night is expected to be clear so Fife countryside is a place to be if you want to observe Perseids showers. It will be at its peak soon although not as intense as previous years.

If anyone is holding you back at home, take them with.

  11. Fantastic day yesterday riding in the Lomond Hills with Ieva, Alison & Nigel (pity Sam’s car broke down). Hadn’t ridden in that area before but want to return, especially for the crackin’ cafe stop at Pillars of Hercules. Great mix of riding and never too much of any one thing for too long. Thanks to Ieva for organising the ride and pre/post tea in the farmhouse.
