13-14th August
- Option 1: 13/14th Aug – Scottish Enduro event at Laggan – I think it’s sold out so you could spectate and cheer folks on
- Option 2: Sat 13th Aug – “A Big Day Out” – location TBC but, if the weather permits, it’ll be somewhere remote with big mountains and hike-a-bike. #staunch
- Option 3: Sun 14th Aug – Local Ride – a journey to the centre of the Kilpatricks. Nothing techy planned, just a pleasant ride. Route/distance will depend on the weather. This ride is aimed at new riders/riders new to the club as I’ve seen a few requests for weekend rides recently. The focus is definitely on social & friendly and doing some exploring – if that wasn’t enough enticement I’m bribing you with a cafe stop too!! 🙂
Post up on the website or on FB to say if you’re coming.
I’m a maybe just now. I’m pretty notorious for being a fair weather cyclist, will give a definite answer mid next week. Hoping for much more bikey than hikey…
Should have made clear; option 2 for me.
Hi Neil – cool, I’ll try to describe the route as accurately as possible so you have a good idea of what to expect. Just to be clear – option 2 (Big Day Oot) will be on the Saturday 13th as per the calendar over there somewhere >>>>>>>>
Just a thought, the Glorious 12th is the day before. Will I need kevlar?
Hi Neil, my research includes calling the estates we’d be in to see if there’s any stalking/shooting taking place. Hopefully you’ll only need body armour for the biking 🙂
Count me in for the Sunday local old Kilpatrick.
Cheers
Hi Tom, that’s great, come on, admit it – it was the promise of a cup of tea that got you interested wasn’t it? 😉
Hello!
only joined this week, will be out on wednesday night but with all things going well will also be out on the sunday for the local ride.
cheers, Lewis.
Hi Lewis – great stuff, hopefully see you on Wednesday.
Count me in for option 2 the big day out.
Cheers
Chris
I’m up for a big day out, although Sunday would suit me better as I’ve a fully day/night out on the Friday. Where you thinking of heading??
Hi Gary, it’s a bit early to say for sure as Saturday’s forecast will probably change but I’m hoping to make it to some of the Angus glens/eastern Cairngorms. It’ll be an early start with a bit of a drive wherever we end up riding.
John and I have a rare weekend together… we are weather watching to see best place to head camping. Glen Clova was one option, so if you do head there, may see you…. but Lakes is looking drier at the moment!
So, for the Big Day Out option, my idea is to head to Glen Clova to ride a loop in the Angus Glens. The route is about 35km, 1150m of ascent (excluding munro bagging Mayar & Driesh). Estimating about 6-7 hours. The drive from Glasgow takes just over 2 hours (going via Perth) so it’s a long day out. The Glen Clova hotel do food so that’s a refuelling option after the ride (quite fancy their pizza!). Take clothing appropriate for a day out in some big hills and enough food & water for your needs. Aiming to leave from the Glen Clova hotel at 09:30 (leaving Glasgow 07:00 – I’ve space for one and can pick up from the west end). From memory there’s a small car park at the hotel and another one just past the hotel, over the bridge. The weather is currently forecast for 20-30mph winds, if any rain it’ll be slight drizzle, occasional sun, 7degC at 900m, cloud base 850-1000m. If the weather changes significantly I’ll revise the plans and let you know.
Think I’ll take a rain check, it’s a lot of fairly difficult walking which would, considering my knee, be a bit much. Bugger…
Enjoy 🙂
What is planned route for the old kilpatricks on sunday.Hoping???to head out from my end and bump into.
Friend of mine has just got a new carbon road bike he wants to unleash on sunday too so keeping options open???
Hi Neil – riding into the Kilpatricks via Carbeth. That’s about the extent of the plan at the moment. It’ll depend on who’s riding and what they feel like. There’s an option to extend it and end up on the pipe track in Killearn for a trundle down to Strathblane.
