Ardgartan Loop this Sunday anyone ?

Forecast is looking good and I haven’t done this one for a while.

For anyone who is interested, but not ridden it before, it’s a longish one, around 4 hrs, with a lot of fireroad and amazing views.  There is a 3 ish mile section of singletrack which contains a very challenging climb and a real rollercoaster descent to LochGoilhead.

If there are a few up for it I’d be planning to be at Ardgartan Car Park ready to ride at 0930.  Look for carpark signed for Forest Walks and with a wee wooden tearoom, off the left of the A83 just before the Rest and be Thankful (turning is a good bit past the campsite).

if not much interest then I’ll probs do a 9am Mugdock.

Cheers

  1. Sunday Local Ride – 9am Incl. Killearn/Dumgoyne High Loop

Planning the following if anyone is interested… 9am promt start at usual car park. Head out to Killearn via the Westie. Climb towards Dumgoyne from landrover track at Killearn and descend behind Dumgoyne to pipetrack. Return to car park, preferably via Bullands, allow way ~4 1/2 hours for loop. Rocky/rooty, riverside etc can be picked up at the start for those who are interested and we can regroup with others at Killearn ready for climb. Plenty of options and variety. Can pick up more of the Mugdock trails if time permits. Myself, Alison, Grant & Stuart did this last week and it was great. The weather seems a bit more promising this Sunday. Will be riding from the house (Lenzie) if anyone wants to join up.

  2. I am planning to be out on the trails on Sunday. I like the Ardgartan loop so I’m up for it, alternatively Mugdock would be fine as well. Post back if Ardg. is on!

  3. Steve. i am hoping we get a few more for ardgartan. keep an eye on here and i will post up later. its a lovely ‘big sky’ ride.

  4. Can anyone provide a lift for Ardgartan (from Anniesland/Milngavie)? Otherwise it’s Mugdock for me.

  5. Grant – it’s a long way out of my way as I am in East Kilbride, so will be going M8 and Erskine Bridge. Hope someone can pick you up – looks like there could be at least 3 of us, so if you can get lift then we can make it a go’er. Cheers. Iain

  7. Iain,

Sorry we won’t make the Ardgarten loop this time – have fun!

  8. Well 4 of us ; steve, stuart, grant and i had a cracking 4 hr loop. lots of sunshine and only a few spots of rain. tired legs now. curry time 🙂

    • My recollection from doing the route a few years ago is that it’d suit a cross bike – am I right in thinking so, or am I blanking bits? ;~)

      • A cross bike would be quite good on that loop. the section from the lochan over to lochgoilhead wouldnt be much fun though as its pretty steep and rocky – think washed out riverbed style….certainly would make the climb back up the Rest a bit easier 🙂

  9. Good call to head over to Ardgarten today, the weather was excellent probably one of the last good days of the year, clocks go back nextweek : (
