Arran Photos & Trip Report

Take 15 GMBC’ers, add to Arran, mix with trails, banter and some alcohol.  Bake for 2 days…….

Tom booked the trip months ago but we got lucky and we enjoyed 2 days of great biking on dry, dusty trails.  Day 1 was the classic Arran black route.  Not so much black in terms of terrain but certainly in distance.  We worked our way down to Whiting Bay via Clauchlands, Lamlash and Glen Ashdale before returning to Brodick via the superb yellow dot singletrack.  By the time we returned to Brodick we were ready for the post-ride recovery beer/cocktails/prosecco – not really sure it counts as rehydration.  Any thoughts of hitting the disco disappeared shortly after dinner and crashing out on the sofas.

Day 2 saw Tom, Gav and Elizabeth head out early to ride up Glen Sannox and over The Saddle into Glen Rosa.  It looked a little steep on the map and turned out to be some extreme hike-a-bike.  The rest of us rode over to Lochranza to do the coastal Cock Of Arran route.  A steep, techy climb was followed by a fast descent down to the coast and a superb trail back along the coast for chips and medals all round.

Thanks to Tom for planning the trip, the guiding and cooking (along with Elizabeth and Ieva and Gavin the sous-chef).  If you’ve not ridden on Arran before then join us the next time we’re heading over.  You won’t regret it.
