Comrie Ride This Sunday

I know it’s a few days away yet, but the weather is looking semi-decent for Sunday so I’ll be doing a ride around the Strathearn area starting from Comrie Croft. It won’t be taking in any of the trail centre routes.

It’ll be about 40km with a cafe stop about two thirds the way round. Pack a sandwich and maybe a light just in case the ride takes longer or the cafe is closed for winter. The route isn’t hugely techy but does have a couple of short, tricky sections. The route is a mix of fireroad, singletrack, cycle path, quiet country road and moorland.

I’m heading up with Gary, aiming to leave Comrie Croft at 0930. The cafe there is closed for winter but the shop and toilets are usually open.

If you’re interested then post up or text / email me.

  1. Hi, here’s some distance estimates for Sunday’s ride.
    Start to Crieff: 18km
Start to planned cafe stop: 30km
Shorter route option: 40km (total distance)
Longer route option: 50km (total distance)
The full bhoona GrahamA & Tom Downie epic megaloop: 64km (relax, not doing that ride, this time)

There’s options for heading back sooner or doing an earlier cafe stop in Crieff if folks feel like it. I’d still pack a sandwich and some munchies in case it’s a lovely day and we fancy an impromptu stop in the hills. Like I said, it’s not a massively techy ride so these distances should be easy enough to cover. Unfortunately we can’t avoid a bit of a steep climb near the start of the ride but at least your legs will be fresh at that point 🙂

  2. Hi, here’s a few photos from when TomD and I went to try the route out back in March this year:

  3. You heading up to loch turret? Bonny views up there.

    • Hehe, well spotted! We’ll just cross by the bottom of Loch Turret before heading back into the Strathearn valley. With the weather it should be another fantastic day out. Join us??
