Final Details For Balmaha Weekender 2013

Update from Dawn:

Hi all,

Just wanted to confirm meeting times for the 19th January.

You will need to be at Bullands Coffee Shop no later than 10:20am on  Saturday morning. The taxi will be arriving at 1030am to pick up the luggage. He is expecting to pick up approximately 20 odd bags so I’ve put in a request for an Estate car. If you’re no there for 1030am then you’ll be pedaling yer own luggage to Balmaha and over Conic Hill, so best no be late 🙂  The luggage will be taken into the Oak Tree and they will stow it in a safe place for collection when we arrive nice n muddy later on.

I would aim to leave Bullands shortly after we’ve sent the luggage off.

Last year some of us met a good half hour or so before we left to get some fuel n coffee and a natter. So am guessing they’ll be more than a few doing this again this year if you fancy it. (Barry is it worth seeing if we can get a small area reserved at Bullands on the saturday morning and later on the sunday afternoon?)

The other thing is the price of the taxi journey is £80 not £60, I was quoted £60 when I called earlier in the week but they said it was a trainee that was on call when I phoned and the management said it would be £40 each way.  With this in mind am afraid it will be between 24 people £3.30. Hope this is ok.

If anyone is not taking the taxi option let me know as I need to know if this is going to get really expensive or not and then we can always try another option.

The taxi has been booked for 3pm to pick the luggage back up. Travel time from Balmaha to Milngavie is approximately 30 mins or so, so I reckon we should aim to be back at Bullands for 330pm. If some people want to play out a little bit longer am sure some of us can head back for the bags and sit in Bulland’s and have a social coffee n cake while the rest of the cavalry arrive.

The Role call has changed ever so slightly again so now we have joining us:

  1. I’m not going to make the ride as my knee is still very sore from glentress. I’m going to sort out a lift so I can still come up in the evening though.

    Cheers

    Jack

  2. Hi Jack,

No worries we’ll see you there!

    Dawn

  3. Looks like it’s going to be a cold one. MWIS is forecasting blizzards for the Loch Lomond NP area, although, MWIS always errs on the doomy side!.

  4. Hey,

My weekend has been freed up, so I’m up for the ride (despite the snow!) – is there still a space available in the bunkroom?

    Graeme B

  5. Hi Graeme,

There is one space left in the bunkroom.
Let me know if your coming so we know to expect you tomorrow before we set off! 🙂
Greg am seriously hoping for MWIS to be on the gloomy side, blizzards do not sound fun!
    See you all tomorrow!

  6. Hi Dawn,

Excellent, Ill see you all tomorrow.

    Graeme

  7. Hi Folks – looking forward to this weekend’s trip, it’s always a good laugh. As it’s going to be a tad chilly you may want the opportunity to purchase one of the 4 remaining 25th Anniversary buffs so I’ll have these with me (£10 each) plus I’ll have the one remaining club top with me too (men’s MTB top, short sleeve, 3/4 zip, £35 if it’s your 2nd top, £25 if it’s your first purchase).

Bullands opens 10am (although they may have someone inside before then) so I’ll see you there for a pre-ride cuppa.

  8. Graham, put me down for one of those, and I’ll defo be at bullands for some pre ride caffeine!. Not knowing milngavie too well, is it ok to park in the railway station car park for the weekend?

Looking forward to it, and also hoping for snow!.

  9. Big thanks to Dawn for organising a really good couple of days, great to put some names to faces as well. Even managed to sort out the weather, happy days!.
