Killearn/Dumgoyne high loop – Sunday (20/11/11)

I’m planning to do the Killearn/Dumgoyne high loop this Sunday, leaving from the usual club car park at 9 a.m. Anyone fancy coming along?

Gerry’s brief description of the ride is:

Head out to Killearn via the Westie. Climb towards Dumgoyne from landrover track at Killearn and descend behind Dumgoyne to pipetrack. Return to car park, preferably via Bullands, allow ~4 1/2 hours for loop. Rocky/rooty etc. can be picked up at the start for those who are interested and we can regroup with others at Killearn ready for climb. Plenty of options and variety.

Weather forecast is looking reasonable at the moment, so might be some nice views over Loch Lomond.

  1. I assume that this is the loop we did with Gerry a few weeks ago. Would be up for this. Depending on the trail conditions we could consider extending to include Earls Seat although haven’t done this before and don’t know if there is a path that would be easy enough to follow. I am sure we could just muddle through.

  2. That’s the one Stuart. I’d be happy to try an Earl’s Seat extension, but certainly don’t know the way.

The path to Earls Seat is obvious. There is the option of heading over to Slack Dhu for the fast and steep grassy descent to Cantywheerys, down to the farm on the Lennoxtown road or going all the way to Fintry via the big corries. There is a lot up there and the views over Loch Lomond and beyond are smashing on a clear day.

  4. Hi Grant,

Count me in, I’ll be there for 9am.

As a slight alternative, I found a post by Sanny on another site, which sounds fun.

It’s pretty much as he descirbed above with more detail. A finish at Bullands sounds good too.

  5. I am a definite maybe for this one too – will know for sure and will post up sat.

  6. Thanks guys, sounds like we might have a decent turnout. Looking forward to it.

  7. I’m up for coming out tomorrow. Not sure what the visibility will be like tomorrow though, persistent fog is forecast between 300m and 500m. Jack

  8. Planning to be there for 9 start
