Mugdock Park Maintenance Day – Volunteers Required

Hi everyone,

It’s that time of year again where you can give something back to Mugdock Country Park! Every year the club gets together a group of volunteers who help out the park rangers with maintenance work around the grounds. Previous projects have included sapling planting, rhododendron burning and pond digging.

We all use the park, so it’s great that we can give up some of our time help out, get stuck in and get a bit manky – that’s the second best thing about being a mountain biker after all! (Best thing has to be buying shiny new bike parts!)

This year Maggie, the head ranger, has allocated us (under supervision, of course!) the task of digging out some invasive American skunk cabbage from Barloch Moor in Milngavie. The day we have arranged is for Saturday 14th May (i.e. not this Saturday but the next).

If you are available to help out, this would really be appreciated by the rangers and the club alike. The plan is to meet up at Barloch Moor at 10.30am and work until 2.30pm.

Barloch Moor is on the right hand side of Mugdock Road as you head up to Mugdock, it lies just below Tannoch Loch.

The American Skunk Cabbage grows in the burn, so it is advisable to wear wellies. It can also be an irritant so strong gloves are recommended.

Again, any help that you can offer on the day would be really appreciated, so if you can spare some time, please let me know so I can give Maggie an idea of the number of volunteers she’ll have that day.

Many thanks,
Lyndsey

  1. Hi Lynsey,

Count me in for the Maintenance day. Please let me know where Barloch Moor is in relation to the visitor centre, as my plan is to park there.

On last nights ride, I met Chris, one of the Meet Up organisers, he mentioned he saw this post and is keen to help out. He’ll post on their web blog too asking for helpers to join us.

  2. Barlow Moor is on the right going up Mugdock Rd after the wee roundabout, entrance opposite Sinclair St, a short walk from Bullands. Mugdock Visitor Centre is miles away, best use car park @ Bullands.

PS check the date ref a certain stag occasion . . .

  3. Looks to me that it’s the folk staying in the big hooses that should be out getting their hands dirty……..

  4. Looks like it’s hit the local press, see p3 of today’s Milngavie and Bearsden Herald! (I’d post a scan of the article here if I could figure out how.)

  5. Anyone know where I can get some size 13 wellies?

  6. Love to help, but at another kids party… daughter has a better social circle than me! I know where I’d rather be… and it is not knee deep in sprogs and cake 🙂

    Sorry, hopefully next time…
