Sat 24th January – OK’s?

Anyone (Gav? Graham? Etc) fancy showing me and a few fellow ayrshirites around the Kilpatricks in a couple of weeks? It’s really not far from us, and I’ve been meaning to get up there for ages.

Hope 2015 is a good un for you all!.

PS – anyone entered the Largs stage of the Scottish enduro series? On our doorstep, it’d be rude not to!.

  1. Hi Greg, could be up for this. I’ve got some friends visiting for Celtic Connections so I need to check what their plans are for the Saturday. I was speaking to Nick about the OK’s the other week, he’s up for some riding there and then we’ve also got Matt, Scotty & Neil who are local, maybe the rest of Team Thorburn too?

See these enduros, how techy are they? I have in my mind that it’s uber hard downhill, have we ridden anything like it? Kelburn maybe?

  2. They won’t be as techy as the trails you were riding with Ed and Doug in Spain mate!. Get your name in!.

  3. Hey Greg, 24th could be good for me. Team Thorburn did a cracking wee route there a few weeks back that included some of the techier downs with a further haul to the top to do a nice wee single track traverse that ends in a grin inducing super swift smooth downhill at the end.

There’s good options for a longer intro route with a long traverse past Jaw Reservoir, and lots of options for folk to bail out due to time constraints or knackerdness!

How about we set aside 4 hours, staring at 10:30am at the car parking beside Old Kilpatrick Bowling Club, near to:
6 Station Rd, Old Kilpatrick, Glasgow G60 5LT

This web link shows the parking spot and will hopefully work if you paste it into your browser:-

As for Enduros, been thinking about it, and it’d be rude not to do Largs!

    See you in Old Kilpatrick!

    Gav

  4. Gavin, that’s sounds perfecto, be good to catch up too. If you fancy a ride before the enduro, we’ll get that sorted too.

  5. Gents

I should be good for this one. Been pottering about the OK’s a few times of late and there are a couple of nice bits.

As for the Enduro at Largs, that’s affirmative from me and looking at a couple of others.

    Nick

  6. Weather looking decent for saturday, probably just Aron and myself coming as the others are still feeling the puffer strains.

    See ya on saturday folks.

  7. Last Saturday the hills had 2 feet of snow in places and it was taking twice as long to get round. Hopefully Friday’s rain will wash some of it away and we’ll make better progress this time! I suspect the route I had in mind may be too much of a grind in snow, so a sensible though no less enjoyable alternative may need to be implemented! See y’all on Sat.

    • Hi all, looking forward to it. I’ll be heading along with Myriam. There was a new rider (Jonathan from France) along on Tuesday night who also fancied joining the ride. He may post up on FB looking for a lift, can someone keep an eye out in case he does. He’s in Partick so I guess there’s also the train as an option? What’s the nearest station?

  8. Kilpatrick station is right next to the meeting point Graham. Not all the trains stop there, so need to get on the right one. Im also thinking about heading over.

  9. I’m up for this tomorrow.

Also, if anyone has spare waterproofs (jacket & trousers) I could borrow for a mate (~6 ft) for a hike on Sunday please bring them along. I can pay for hire in the form of cake/beer.

    Cheers,

    Eilidh

  10. Aiming to tag along. Hope that there’s still some snow and ice about, don’t want to haul the Freddy Krueger tyres up there for nothing!

  11. i will ride out from west end (Botanics) along the canal as it goes straight to Old Kilpatrick – perhaps an easier option for Jonathan then getting the train from Partick.

  12. Also, can provide a lift from Partick.

  13. Sorry guys. I had to turn back after several falls on black ice in my estate in Erskine. Text G, so hope you got the message and don’t wait about in the cold for me. Bummer

  14. Hey Al, sorry to hear of your black ice bother. I also jumped on the bike and immediately hit the deck. Take 2 and I was off, but still very icy on paths on both sides of the bridge.

It was a great wee ride though. Up to the trig point first and then down the front face of the slacks – nice and snowy n’ techy!

A big thanks to the Ayrshire hardcore crew for both their company and for giving us a showing up by staying out for a second go at the ‘Killer’ uphill, with the Laing Craigs grassy descent to finish off the day.

Myriam also deserves a mention for showing us all how to fall off with panache and walk away with a smile!

Hopefully Greg & Co will be back for more OK’s action soon,

    Gav

  15. Great ride as ever Gav, really appreciate the guiding!. Saw enough up there today to suggest that far more exploration is required, need to be back up soon. Was great see some faces I’ve not seen for a while, and great craic as usual…

    See y’all soon.

  16. Gav. The funniest thing ever, sliding about 40m on my backside by all my neighbours front windows. Got away with it but thought I might be pushing a collar bone break if I cont’d after my 2nd fall. Catch up later.
