Saturday ride – A9shire

Hello
I’m planning a ride with some friends on Saturday.  They live in Dundee so we’re hopefully going to meet up somewhere on the A9, maybe Perth or Pitlochry.

Does anyone fancy coming along?

Also, can anyone recommend any routes that are unlikely to be totally sodden / underwater?

  1. Hi
I might be up for something on saturday but not if its the gales that predicted! Rides around Perth are hard to come by. Dunkeld or Pitlochry may be better- you could try Queens Road which should be okay as a fair bit is on track. It will be explosed higher up though.
Another idea is Comrie Croft trails. They seem to have done some work up there, but not been up to see for myself.
Anyway, keep[ me in the loop regarding what you decide to do.

    Sam

  2. Hi,
The Farragon Loop – Pitlochry, that I did a couple of weeks ago, is on landrover tracks though it does go up quite high, equally the Ben Vrakie trail would be good. Whilst not wishing to disagree with Sam, I found the Queens Road return leg a bit of a mud fest. I think there are trails at Kinnoul Hill
    all the best

  3. Thanks. We’re going to head to Pitlchry and ask in the shop what’s looking good. Meet at Pitlochry at 9.30am, main carpark. Probably aiming to do around 4hr of riding (possibly two shorter loops with a cafe stop)

  4. I was in Dunkeld last Friday, and they had taken an absolute hammering in the storms. The Hilton estate had suffered massive damage, as had the Hermitage, so you may want/need to tailor and ride accordingly, especially with the repeat that we had on Wednesday.

  5. top tip. Contact the guys at Escape Route bike shop in Pitlochry. Local trail knowledge. Last time I was up they said to get in touch before you come up and they can sort out pre-ride bacon rolls. Sanny says they do great coffee too. I’m sure if you ask nicely they’ll let you use the bike wash. I was up there with Euan McDougall back in October and did the Farragon Loop. Nothing too technical, nice descent down to Strathtay. Possibly quite exposed up on Farragon Hill. If the weather’s clear it’ll be a cracking view. We need a ride report with pics wherever you end up!
