So long, and thanks for all the punctures

As some of you may know, I’m moving down to Sheffield for work next week. I’ve had a great time in Glasgow, and GMBC have been a big part of that.

Some stand out moments:

  • Iain ‘demonstrating’ how to get over the boardwalk near Mugdock castle and promptly landing in the bog.
  • Hours and hours spent in the Stables cafe when we should have been riding bikes.
  • Descending in the Old Kilpatricks only to find that braking made you go faster.
  • Big weekend rides – Great Glen Way & the Westie, and the tour de Cairngorm.
  • Balmahooha – doing this on your birthday is a bad idea.
  • The GMBC 25 weekend.
  • The Selkirk Singletrack ride this Summer, you all owe it to yourself to try this at least once.

I could go on… *sniff*

Thanks everyone for all the good times. I’m sure I’ll be back up here with a bike soon, and make sure you give me a shout if you’re ever down in the Peak District.

  1. All the best for Sheffield Grant! Keep in touch.

    Gerry and Alison

  2. Hi Grant – I’m sure I speak for a lot of your friends at the club, you’ll be missed. A few stand out moments from myself:
    – your top efforts on trail maintenance days resulting in 2 great sections on the Riverside
    – you disappearing into the distance at the start of Day 1 of the Cairngorms Tour, all that training with Gerry The Punisher paid off!
    – enjoying quite a few tasty beers and you sharing your brewing knowledge – I’m sure it’s because you’re a chemist
    – that epic day out piecing together all the singletrack I could remember near Selkirk – over 4200feet of climbing & descending and all on dry trails. Superb!

Thanks for your contribution to the club and all your help with the website! With Paivi & Dave in Macc I reckon you’ll see some of us in the Peak District sooner than you’d like. All the best to you, Anna and Freya with the move! Keep in touch.

PS: yeah, riding skills advice from Iain Clow? You’ll be glad you didn’t pay for that! 😉

  3. Yes. Always a pleasure to ride with you, Grant. Will catch you for another epic soon enough. Just a pity your daughter won’t develop a Scottish accent – but atleast she was born on the best side of the border.

  4. What do you mean by this, Grant?..
Balmahooha – doing this on your birthday is a bad idea

Have good time in Sheffield and the Peaks!
