Two different Road Rides this Sunday 4th March

Hi all,

Simon Simpson sent out an email today regarding training road rides for the members doing the Bike Show Sportive in April.  I think it’s a fantastic idea and certainly needed, especially for myself.

Along with Gerry and however else wishes to join them, they are taking part in the Johnstone Wheelers organised Don Smith Memorial.  I have added this to the calendar, see here for more detail http://www.gmbc.org.uk/event/don-smith-memorial-road-ride-45-miles/. Please ignore our calendar times and go with whats on the JW website (link in event post).

Not meaning to rock the boat in any way, I have declined this ride and decided (weather permitting) to complete my own Road Ride that a few of us did this time last year.  I have also entered this on to our calendar, see here for more detail http://www.gmbc.org.uk/event/dukes-pass-crow-road-loop-approx-6570-miles/. Depending on how I’m feeling, I may even cut the route short.

So, don’t say we don’t spoil you boys and girls…..no road rides for ages, then like the number 66, they all show up at the same time.  I hope some of you make it out to at least one of these rides.

Finally, a huge thanks to the sub committee media team behind all this.  These event entries are my first of many I’m sure.  It was very easy and it looks fantastic due to the work you guys have been putting in.  You can have the rest of the day off 😉

  1. I could be tempted with the Lochwinnoch ride possibly – although the ride out from crookston pushes it up a bit in terms of distance – alternatively I will probably do a road ride anyway. My preference is always to ride south of the river, I find the renfrewshire roads a bit more friendly to bikes and a lot more routes – plus you can add the cycle path into the ride to give an easier option to warm up, or recover. So either the wheelers ride or some other foray into renfrewshire or the coast. There is a great wee loop that goes to greenock and has a huge climb over to kilmacolm that probably hammers the crow in terms of length and steepness if that’s you bag!

  2. Think I am on the the memorial ride – but will probably need to drive to lochwinnoch – got to take daughter to a kids party in afternoon so need to be home sharp and not too exhausted!

  3. I’ve scrapped my road ride on Sunday and decided on a local blast round Mugdock, due to the weather forecast. I’m heading out for a 9am start from the club hall.
