Arran, Sunday (12th)

I’d like to get away on Saturday or Sunday but Glencoe sounds a bit tough for me. If there are no better suggestions, I plan to go to Arran on Saturday, as their trail maps are available online, a few of them to choose from (18, 25, 35 k).

Would anyone be up for it or any other routes?

P.S. I would even fancy to go for 2 days but it’s not realistic to get accommodation for such a weekend the last moment. Camping is an option, if I get any company.

  1. I did a few of the Arran routes in June. The Clauchlands loop starting from Brodick is a good ride. It might be very overgrown by this time of year though, some of it could be quite tough. Very nice place to ride though.

If Saturday doesn’t work out I’d be up for getting away on the Sunday, assuming I survive Glencoe.

  2. I can do Sunday if I get a lift to Ardrossan. Check in for bicycles closes 30 min before departure and it means that I wouldn’t be able to make it for 9.45 ferry if I come by train.

  3. mieva, As a frequent rider on Arran, I can assure you that you will be fine getting the train down for the 9.45 ferry. I’ve often turned up really late and never had an issue. I’m pretty sure that the general rule of thumb is that the ferry won’t leave without the train being in place, as the train is carrying a lot of the ferries passengers.

Clauchlands doesnt really get overgrown tbh, should be fine.

  4. Hi,
We are doing a Sunday ride to either Pitlochry or Comrie (see Perthshire Sunday post). One of us will give you a lift. If you have gone to Arran instead, enjoy!

  5. As the Perthshire event sounds a bit secret, decided to do Arran. 2 or 3 Glencoe survivors are going.

  6. Not secret, just disorganised.

Simon, Sam, myself and maybe Ryszard are meeting at Comrie Croft at 10:30am. Too many route options ranging from low level trails to munro bagging so we’ll make a call when we get to Comrie depending on how the weather looks and the legs feel.
