Big Away Ride- Glen Devon- Saturday 6th June

Hi All,

It’s been 2 years since Graham lead a bunch of hardy soles out into the wilds of the Ochils to do this club classic, so putting it back on the calender for this year, and John can even come for once!

The route would start at the Golf Club car park just on the outskirts of Tilly, cycle track to Dollar then up and into the hills, returning to the car park after about 30km and 800m of climbing.  There aren’t any facilities en route to speak of (possible tea stop at a boathouse in Glen Devon).  The post-ride plan is to then head to Bridge of Allan to sample the delights of the chippy or a BBQ at ours if the weather looks ok.

It’s not massively technical as it’s mainly land rover track and open moorlands but the climb IS steep and it’s exposed so pack appropriate waterproof clothing. There is however, about 5km  of very technical riding down to the finish at Tillie.  Once into the hills there’s nowhere to stop for food so pack enough food & water.

Start time likely to be around 10am, and ride will be weather dependant as its all very exposed and not really a ride for bad weather.

  1. I’m up for a rematch. I’ll perhaps not do a 70mile ride the day before this time ;~)

Excellent- you can help me navigate… Hopefully a few others will join us as not been any away rides for a wee while.

  3. I’d be up for this too! Weather permitting…

  5. I could be up for this 🙂 as everyone says tho, dependent on the weather and also whether my car is due out of the garage!

Considering moving this ride out to Sunday due to wet, windy forecast for tomorrow. Will call it this evening as weather seems to be changing by the hour! It just wont be nice being out on open moorland all day in the wet.

  8. Sunday is better for Tom.

  9. If it’s on Sat I’m skipping it and will head on to Glentress early in the morning to do some fun ride till 2pm before rain.

  10. Given the forecast for tomorrow is still rubbish, we’re going to give it a miss this time. Can’t do this Sunday unfortunately, but would be up for this another time!

  11. I’m up for Sunday.

Yes, due to poor weather let’s change this to sunday. It looks much better.

This still on? Weather is looking good and I would like to join if possible.

Yes, ready to ride at 10am to get the best weather… See you in morn. You can get my mobile from graham if you need it.

  15. Cracking ride, perfect day for it. The wind was a bit lively, but largely welcome in the sunshine, and the views were huge.

Agreed. Thank you Sam for organising this. Weather was great in the end….for a circular ride, we seemed to have the wind behind us for most of it though the 2 miles towards the fisherman’s hut seemed to take an age…rewarded with tea though. The descent was excellent…rutted, narrow, steep drops and switchback galore to finish.
