Calling all folks with the 30 quid deal extreme lights: I had my fairly new lights on charge in the office and they started putting out a lovely molten plastic smelling smoke. lucky I was sitting right bedside them at the time so I yanked the plug out the wall straight away! Hate to think what would’ve happened if I’d been out the office – or worse, charging them at home! They were being charged up from completely flat and I guess the charger just totally overheated, I think the battery is OK though. Needless to say they’ll be getting sent back.
I’ve had a couple of sets of the £50 jobs from deal extreme with no such problems, but if you own these cheaper ones beware of where and when you charge them!
Oh, and Merry Christmas everyone!!

Gav,
there is quite a history of the DealExtreme lights doing this, with loads of threads on singletrack forum on the problems with some, but very much not all of the chargers. General consensus is don’t leave them charging unattended….and expect to get what you pay for 🙂
oh yes great news i’ve just ordered a set whooppee…what a bargain …ba hum bug.Anyway i.ve just refreshed on the fire fighting for work and my neighbour is a fireman. So perhaps bar mount instead of helmet mount is the way to go, save the ghost rider impersonations for halloween.
