GMBC 25th Anniversary Weekend Event – Input needed!

Hello Folks,

My apologies in advance, this is a tad text heavy, but please read it thoroughly and we (the committee) need your feedback.

As this is a special year for the club, we want to organise a special weekend event which will hopefully appeal to all our members- old, new, and absent- and friends and family! But we need to gauge your reaction to this before we commit any club funds. The idea is to have one special weekend event, where we bring everyone together for a range of different activities, rides and chance to be social. The location being considered is close enough to Glasgow for folk who don’t want to stay to come up for a day trip, or a social activity.

The Idea

Location: Trossachs Hostel, Callander – provides a range of rooms, great shared cooking and eating facilities, plenty of outdoor space, and a large indoor hang out space, if it’s wet.

Date: 17th-19th August

Suggested Activities:-

  • Rides- Glen Finglas, Achray Forrest, Stank Glen
  • Classic GMBC Rides- Glen Ample, Mentieths
  • For the Munroe Riders- Ben Venue and Ben Ledi (or even Ben A’an?!)
  • Classic Road rides- Loch Katrine and the Dukes Pass/ banks of Loch Vennachar
  • BBQ
  • Bike Jumble Sale – if enough interest, the outdoor space can accommodate this.
  • Bike Trail Quest
  • Menteiths Time trail – out and back from hostel, up a killer hill, and down a techie descent.
  • Kids activities depending on the demand.
  • Pubs- The Lade Inn, with a real ale shop, is only 1 mile away. http://theladeinn.com/

NB. Any other activities can be suggested by the members. Maybe a slide show through the ages of GMBC? Maybe someone will offer make a special birthday cake in teal and black?! Oh, and don’t forget the club members group photo!! 😉

Food- we will work this out once we have numbers, but BBQ one option, as is shared cooking, or Callander is only 3 miles away. If we do communal cooking, cost could be as little as £2 per person!

Cost: We need a minimum of 20 people to commit to stay for the 2 nights, at a maximum cost of £20ppn which includes breakfast. If we exceed these numbers, then the cost will decrease. Once we have an idea of numbers, the club will work out what we can subsidise- either food or accommodation.

So, can we have a show of hands to see who is interested in this proposal? We need to make the booking soon to ensure we get these dates (many of the dates over the summer have already gone), and if there is only lukewarm interested, we’ll not arrange this.

Thank you

Barry & your committee

  1. Hi Barry – I’d be up for all the events, but will probably stay in nearby Dunblane (that’s my Dunblane residence Graham!). Sounds great! Happy to contribute to and even ‘bring a BBQ’ etc.

    Cheers – Nigel

  2. Great idea, count me in!
    Phil

  3. Count me in to any ride that includes a barbie! I’m talking burger-frazzling of course, not beautiful blond eidjits…

  4. sounds good to me too

  5. I’ll be up for the daytime activities but will probs go home overnight

  6. I’d love too, but unfortunately Jen and I are at a wedding down south that weekend.
If the date changes for any reason, we’ll be up for it.

    have an ace time.

  10. Count me and lorna in also.

  11. That’s near as dammit my birthday too, ;~)

  12. I fancy this one too IF shifts allow surprise surprise!( i won’t go into detail cos even I get confused over logistics thinking.) when do you need an answer. I was talking to greenkeeper John today. Am I right in saying that gmbc are hiring the hostel for that w/e .so therefor if all beds are booked up I imagine that any extra bodies/stragglers could doss on the floor or pitch a tent in the grounds?????!!!! is that the date set 17-19 aug.

      Neil,

yes, this is the planned date, due to availabilty. The hostel sleeps a maximum of 32, so camping will only be needed if we exceed these numbers… but it is still an option, if we do!
      Sam

  13. I am up for it, would bring wife and kids if there is a few more families there, so 4 spaces for me!

  14. Yep, count me, Debs and Kev in too. Probably just the day thing as Debs folks have a house on the banks of Venacher : )

  15. ex-Roadie Simon

Hi, count me and Jacqueline also. We will be late on Friday evening most likely but will be there. Since I have retired from riding for the year the Lade Inn sounds like an option…. In fact do they have rooms?

  16. Hi Sam – count me in for this too. Looking forward to plenty of riding and socialising that weekend!
