GMBC rides Peaks ( or Yorkshire)?

In May, some of the GMBC riders visited little Hamlet called Brereton, rode some of the local trails and drank fair amount Jack Daniels ( and sherry!). It was great to see you all and without me needing to drive up to Glasgow :-).

Someone did say that it would be good to have another trip planned for early Autumn and we could either do Peaks again or head to Yorkshire.

Well, I am happy to organise it but need to know when, where and how many people ? Couple of ideas below.

Peaks – stay over in Castleton, Hope or Hathersage area and ride Hope classic, Stanage Edge, Ladybower etc. or stay at ours and drive there in the morning.

Yorkshire – fantastic trails all over  in places like Booze and crackpot 🙂 Swaledale, Malham etc.

some route ideas below.  My personal favorite is Swaledale area and there is a bike shop with bunkhouse and cafe ( close to a pub)

I was thinking about September/early October time.

Let me know if you are interested and I will start organising things.

BTW we also have a trip going out to Northumberland at the end of October if anyone is interested….staying here >

trying to get the price down to about £11 per person plus £3 for a meal on Sat night. Kielder forest has lot of really nice trails…

Right, that’s all for now. Hope the weather’s been better up there. Hoping to catch up with you around 9th/10th of July.

  1. Interested and currently fairly free September/October.

  2. Hi, there are plans afoot for a Lakes weekend away 19-21 Oct so to avoid a clash something like 29/30th Sept would be good.

  3. Sam_I hate hillclimbs_Groves

You might want to consider 21st-24th September- that’s the Glasgow long weekend holiday.

  4. I’m alawys up for a north England outing. Count me in. I’m free most weekends, so any time in Sept/Oct suits me.

  5. forgot the lakes trip which we are going to do I think. so September it is…any preferences? Peaks or Yorkshire?

will target third or fourth weekend of September…

  6. Yorkshire would be my preference.

  7. i am keen for this. Can definitely do last weekend in Sept, possibly the one before also.

  8. ok. will start planning Yorkshire for September. Swaledale, Horton/Ribblesdale area….

  9. Another vote for Yorkshire. FYI, there’s 2 great pubs in Appletreewick 🙂

  10. have found a nice cottage near Reeth (Swaledale) but would need to know how many people are interested and how many nights from 21st September ->They have that weekend and the following week free so there is an opportunity to extent the stay. If we get 6 people, the cost would be in the region of £18 pp/per night. This is based on weekly rental rate if Dave and I are the only people staying for remaining 4 days. I have asked the owner to confirm the cost for the weekend only in case there are no other takers for a longer break. The area has plenty of trails but nothing too scary and technical, plenty of up and down though….. If this does not plan out and we cannot get the cottage or Low Row bunkhouse, will be looking to check the OS map and choose the next best area (lots of bridleways…).

so for now, I would need a fairly firm commitment as I need to book the place before heading home to Finland on 20th. Don’t want to leave this too late.

  11. Hi Paivi – I’m confirmed. Fri 21st, Sat 22nd and possibly Sun 23rd (just waiting for the Monday holiday to be approved). £18pppn +/- a wee bit is fine. I’m off on the Friday so can be down there in good time for a local ride or a ride en route.

  12. Hi Paivi,
I was sorry to miss your last outing, so I’m up for this, Fri-Mon
    ta Chris

  13. Count me in. Friday to Monday. Not sure I can take the Friday off as well… will see closer to the time and how it works with transport etc. But sounds great, thanks for organising Paivi.

  14. so far I got Dawn, Graham, Chris and Liz confirmed. The cottage owner is not prepared to do a shorter period than 7 days from Saturday to Saturday so will check with couple of others and get back to you. Paivi

  15. Right…http://www.catholecottages.com/swaledale/component/resman/task,moreinfo/id,23/Itemid,200112 sleeps 6 but I can bring a camping bed for one more so 7 in total. 3 miles from Reeth, pub close by and lot of bridleways close by :-).

Graham, Dawn, Paivi, Dave, Chris and Liz confirmed. Cost is about £15 per night. if anyone else is interested, let me know asap. I will be booking the cottage tomorrow morning as then off for 2 weeks.

  16. I have contacted the owner of the cottage and planning to go with this instead.

mile or so up the road ( interesting drive down from Tan Hill :-)). this sleeps 8 and therefore enough beds for the people who already confirmed plus Bill from Delamere and David ( if you are still interested). the cost shows as £375 or £275 for 3 nights so the worst case is that we need to pay about £17 each or £12 :-).

  17. looks great to me, well done

  18. Hi Paivi – I’m happy with the place and price. Thanks for sorting this out. Let me know when you need the cash.

  19. Brookside cottage reserved and paid. £12 per head per night if all 8 shows up :-).

We can sort out the money closer by.

    Paivi
