GMBC Yoga/Pilates and Circuits Classes – Wed Winter Nights

At the last committee meeting, we discussed the possibility of using the hall on Wednesday nights for Yoga/Pilates Classes and Fitness Circuit Classes on alternate weeks over the winter. The intention is for the class to be ~8-9:30pm leaving some time to have a cup of tea with anyone out night riding. The aim would be to get a proper yoga/pilates teacher and concentrate on core work and stretches more beneficial for cyclists. The fitness circuits classes would be run by ourselves. The yoga/pilates class would be a maximum of £4 per person per class. Depending on numbers and exact figures there might be a case that the club could subsidise this, however, this needs to be confirmed. At this stage, I would like to establish how many people would be interested in taking part in yoga/pilates and circuits classes. Please let me know ASAP so as I can try and get things sorted.

  1. I’d be interested in both circuits and yoga – anyone else?

  2. I’m interested in principle, just not sure I’ll be around in winter – so maybe I don’t count at this point.

  3. Reckon I’d be up for giving this a go providing it fits within my, er, age group, without spoling it for anyone else! When were you thingking of starting it up, late Sept/early Oct I would guess?

  4. Sounds interesting, keep me posted. Steve

  5. This sounds good. I fancy a doing a bit of Yoga over winter.

  6. I’m sure there is still Yoga classes held on a Wednesday prior to GMBC Hall opening times. Still…..a good idea. I’ve been going to Saturnday morning Yoga sessions for 6 weeks now and can recommend it….great for the back etc.

  7. I’m interested in this too. Might help my old back out…

  8. Count me in.

For all you doubters out there, check out page 108 of the August issue of DIRT magazine……..

  9. Looks like I will be around over the winter, so count me in.

  10. To date, 12 people have expressed an interest in the gmbc yoga/pilates classes. The classes are £4 per person, will be between 7:30 – 9:00pm every second Wednesday from 5th Oct 2011 to 14th Dec 2011 (5th Oct, 19th Oct, 2nd Nov, 16th Nov, 30th Nov & 14th Dec). The total cost will be £24 (i.e. 6 nights at £4). I know that you might not be able to make all of the dates and I will try to organise any refunds. However, please note, that Dianne requires a minimum of £25 per class to make it worthwhile.

In order for the classes to run, it seems that the most straightforward approach is for the people interested to pay me up-front for the classes via electronic bank transfer prior to the 15th Sept. A few folk have already said they would be happy to do this and it means that it will be worth the instructors while to come out and we don’t have to chase people up for cash every week. I know that this will be a few weeks before the classes start, but I want to get things sorted asap. The classes will be taken by Dianne McNicoll who has an advert in the hall and she will deliver a class specific to cyclists.

For the people that have expressed an interest (Me, Alison Cleary, Grant Hill, Phil Draper, Steven M70, Euan Boyd, Ross Black, Pete Morgan, Iain Clow, Mark Forrest, Barry Mears & Simon Haslam), please confirm that you want to proceed via the separate gmbc email that I will also send out. Following your confirmation, I will email you my bank account details separately.

If the classes are a success then we could think about running them during the first 2-3 months of 2012. Cheers Gerry
