Gourock AUDAX Ride – Rivers Lochs and Glens 200km – 17th July 2011

Calling all cross bike riders… Alison and I are planning this event. If anyone else fancies it AND would be happy to sit in a bunch then give us a shout. It’s only £8 and that also includes the ferry. Check for details at http://www.aukweb.net/events/detail/11-169/

  1. May be up for this other commitments depending.

If anyone is thinking about it, these events are a personal challenge and not a race (supposedly). A bit like a sportive but one or two differences:

    1. In sportives everyone other than you seems to have a £3000 carbon wonder bike
    2. In a sportive you have bunch of folk hammering along pretending they are in a race whereas an audax is a bunch of folk hammering along pretending not to be in a race
    3. A sportive coasts about 5 times as much (look at this event – it even includes your ferry ticket!

  2. I’ll be up for it if I’m not on holiday/back from holiday by then.

  3. 200k… This could be a ‘2 shorter!’ think I not be able to walk for a while after this… will have a think 🙂

  4. I’m interested. Longest I’ve done so far, with no prior training outwith my usual riding, has been 85 miles (the Caledonia etape route), which left me draped over the handlebar for the final climb. I’ll see how riding on the coat tail of Dawn’s Ironman training goes.

Gerry, get some slicks! Actually, on second thoughts, don’t. Be nice to have some company at the back ;~p

  5. I’m up for this. My only concern is that killer climb at the back of Tighnabruaich again, although the descent was fantastic.
