I know it’s the middle of winter… but any interest in a big summer ride?

In the interests of keeping spirits up during the dreachness of mid-winter I’ve been thinking about summer.

Anyone interest in this?

Shindig route

Milngavie>Westie to Inversnaid>Aberfoyle>Calander>Glen Ample>Calander>Aberfoyle>Strathblane>Milngavie

200km (125 miles) mostly off-road. The route was set by Bryan Dawson for Shand Cycles ‘Shindig’ bike packing over-nighter.

Planning on doing it in a day, perhaps on CX bike  – possibly second weekend in June or last weekend in July. Likely a 6am start and a midnight finish. All TBC

It’s obviously going to be hard work, but at least there’s plenty of time to get the miles in!

  1. The concept appeals – not so sure the body would be capable though, not in 1 day. Even as a 2 day ride this would be some challenge. Could be up for a 2 day version if enough others were interested too.

Calendar would be the logical overnight stop, allowing anyone struggling to skip the Gen Ample loop to reduce the intensity (and distance) slightly.

  2. Robin, good work – looks a beast. I have been trying to piece something like this together for ages – and this seems ideal. Count me in (based on u riding at 20psi). Hope u might be a bit slower when u hit thirty. Thanks.

  3. OK, so from here and Farcebook we’ve got solid interest from:

    Gerry ‘The Punisher’ Cleary
    Tom ‘Staunch’ Downie
Tom ‘Can I swap shifts with you?’ Wylie
    Garry ‘Awwwww Ma Bawz’ Clark’

And a couple of other expressions of interest.

Now, if I were a 90’s tabloid football writer discussing an upcoming tie against European opposition I’d describe that has a ‘crack squad’. What type of crack, the Lord only knows.

I will post up a proposed date soonish…
