The night provided an excellent grounding in basic essential navigation for those either previously untutored or, like me, whose previous training was buried in the mists of time and have become far too rusty thanks to a handy GPS unit. Map setting, translating between your environment and the map, taking and following bearings, and how to get yourself unlost were all covered, with the aid of medium sized objects, a few blankets, some string, and a small monkey. An excellent introduction to essential skills, and hopefully more members can take take advantage of future club-subsidised theory and practical sessions.

Echo that, Had a great night and left with a smile and some valuable skills. well done for organising.
As above. Also relieved that the random objects were for educational purposes and no one got hurt!!
Yes, I can once again use a compass. Excellent stuff.
I hope nobody caught my stinking cold.
Have you have worked out how to wind up that dodgy compass of yours.
Indeed, as practical as a classroom-based training course can get! A great, active session and I’ve dusted off some seriously out-of-practice skills. Right, I’m now off to find a Trailquest event!!!
Please post if you find one nearby, wouldn’t mind giving it a go (although being part of a pair might be a good idea).
