Queen’s Baton Relay Event – Sat. 19th July

The Queen’s Baton Relay will be at the club hall this coming Saturday!  It’s a great chance to see it up close and to enjoy some of the build up to the Commonwealth Games.  If you can make it along then please post up on the website.

There’s more detail about the route for Day 36 of the relay here:

Timings:

  • Fri 6pm to Sat. midday – Milngavie & Bearsden Sports Club (MBSC) car park closes to the public.  Given the parking restrictions it might be best to ride up or to park elsewhere and ride in.
  • Sat. 10:00 – 14:00 – MBSC open day with various clubs exhibiting and a chance to try different sports (or so I’m told – specific details are scarce)
  • Sat. 10:50 – 11:20 (approx) – Queen’s Baton arrives at the club and stays for a short time.
  • While the baton is at the club I’m hoping we can get a photo shoot with it and all the club members that make it along.
  • Sat. 14:30 – if anyone is around then I’m planning a local bike ride for a few hours.

We’ll have the Dales Cycles gazebo up and will be using it as a base to promote the club from.

Typical activities we’re hoping to offer include:

  • Free bike checks and advice – NB: repairs will be limited as we don’t have any support from Dales Cycles in terms of supplies
  • Maintenance demonstration & discussions on “how to”
  • Some basic cycle skills coaching (if we have enough space to do this)

What do we need from you?  Here’s some areas you could help with:

  • Spending a few minutes on the stand promoting the club and its activities and talking to people at the event
  • Offering technical/maintenance skills to fellow club members/the public
  • Setting up and taking down the gazebo

If you have any ideas for anything else we can do or what you can contribute then please post up or drop me an email.
