A Very Good Reason to Join GMBC

Graham reminded me that Alpines give club members free demo bikes. So, phoned up St. George’s store with my request for a full susser for GT on sunday. He phoned me back 10 mins later to say they have put aside a 2012 Trek Lush for me for the day! That’s £40 a day hire bike!

Can’t wait to try it out. And that’s covered my 2012 membership!!

Only down side is that i may like it too much!

  1. Thanks for the reminder. I’ve been wanting to try out a Santa Cruz Nickel, I should see if they have one to demo at GT.

  2. Sam,

I am planning on joining the group on Sunday at Glentress and had a similar thought regarding a Demo Bike. I went into St Georges Cross yesterday to arrange a bike. I was informed that I could only do this directly through Alpine at Glentress as only they can advise on availability. While this is not what it says on the Alpine website I don’t have a particular issue with this as I suppose this is relatively late notice.

I phoned Glentress yesterday afternoon and sure enough there wasn’t much in the way of bikes in my size available. I guess that this is what comes of being average size, In height if not circumference. I have chosen a medium Santa Cruz Blur, which may or may not fit I suppose but for a few hours I am sure I can survive.

What did concern me somewhat was that the guy from Alpine was surprised to hear that GMBC get free access to demo bikes. He went as far as to say that he doubted this very much as staff don’t have free access to these bikes. I will say that when I was in St Georges Cross I was told that they had that morning sent a Members list to Glentress and I am sure that this will resolve itself. I for one however, will be taking my own bike just in case.

  3. Just a quick update on GMBC access to Demo bikes at Glentress. Three of us pitched up and were quickly decked out with bikes of various flavours with no problems whatsoever. While the bike I had was probably a little small for the ups, what a ball I had on the downs. I must now have a full suspension bike. The person who foresaw problems should hang his head in shame 🙂
