maybe a bit off the beaten track for most, but a few of us are planning a Tue evening roadride round the hills behind East Kilbride. Leaving Lidl (Hairmyres) at 6 pm, 24 miles of quiet country roads and some reasonable hills. Pace around 16 mph so ride time about 1.5 hrs.
Forecast at moment looks ok and will post up if any changes.

The ‘summer’ is ticking away, however the Calmac ‘summer’ timetable remains until part way through October.
I was wondering about a Sunday towards end of Sept, poss 30th, weather permitting ?
Anyone heading out local tonight ? weather will be lovely but am thinking trails will be a quagmire still…
an alternative could be a road ride although we would need to be away sharp, closer to 7, to get back for 9ish before dusk ?
what are the collective thoughts ?

I popped along to the open day yesterday after work – really interesting and pretty impressive trails getting built. They are underway already and being built in 3 phases, such that when a phase is finished it can be ridden as a full looop. First Phase, which is the section nearest the main top car park, will be finished in a few weeks. Surfacing will be Type 1, finished with whin dust, which will aid the bedding in – very similar construction to 7Stanes etc, so durability should be good. There are a load of technical features, and they have the trail designer from the Beijing course working on the detail of those. The whole thing will be finished by Christmas, and they have provision to do further works in 2013 once feedback is made on tweaks that are required. There will be another period of pre commonwealth Games trail tweaks to adjust for the competition itself.
All in all a very positive addition to our trail centres and although only 5.5km in length, it certainly looks like it will be right up there with the best of the technical trail centres. The organisers are keen that it starts to get ridden asap so i suggetsed I would stick a club ride in the calendar for later in the summer, by which time the first phase will be ready, and poss the second. Riders are welcome to ride the full route, which is marked, in advance of building work, but obviously to keep clear of actual construction
Much as I would love to go on the away ride time won’t permit for me tomorrow. Planning to be over for a 9am sharp start on the local trails for a few hrs if anyone is up for it.

I am going road riding on Sun in a vain attempt to get fit for Etape, however one of my work colleagues, Louise, is keen to join the 9 am ride if anyone is heading out.
