The Highland Warrior

Kai is the son of friends of mine (Morgan and Makiko). Kai has been diagnosed with Anelgman Syndrome. Don’t know what that is? Watch this…

This weekend I am taking part in a Half Ironman distance triathlon (The Highland Warrier). 70.3 miles of swimming, cycling and running (running probably in it’s loosest possible term… by the time I pull my running shoes on I will be lucky to be staggering along). I want to raise as much money as I can to support the research and development for a cure for Angelman Syndrome. Research that could directly help Kai.

To put into context what I am attempting, the longest triathlon I have completed before now is a Sprint distance event (16.5 miles). Please give me motivation and pledge your support. How much is not so important – what is important to me is that as many people as possible pledge some support as I will be using the thought of the number of people supporting me to keep me going on the day.

Thank you to the club members that have already donated, I really appreciate it, but there is always room for more names on the list! Go on, please sponsor me here – http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/JohnBennie

GMBC’s Hilly Time Trial Course now on Strava

Hi folks,

I went out for a morning ride with OMD earlier this week and cruised round our (road) hilly time trial course so that I could create the segment. Here it is linked in the club discussion…

I was hoping to run another timed event again this year (as I did last year), but work has had the better of me on week-day evenings this year. Instead, get yourself out there, ride the segment and record some times 🙂

Coast to Coast

This weekend is the Scotland Coast to Coast Challenge; from Nairn, down the Great Glen, to Glencoe on foot bike and kayak. I am raising funds for Guide Dogs for the Blind and all I am asking is that you sponsor me to the tune of the cost of a pint (probably less if you drink in Glasgow pubs): £3.00.

Go on, surely you can afford to spare a pint for a good cause.

Hydraulic Brakes – HELP!

The rear Hayes brake on my Bianchi keeps going tight (ie brake pressure constantly on) despite several bleeds (last one done by Alpine). Seems to be heat related (hot conditions make it worse), so I still think there is air in there somewhere. Anyone out there particularly good at bleeding brakes and want to have a go at trying to cure my problem?

Alternatively, anyone got a cheap rear brake set-up they no longer have a use for? It’s getting close to that stage…
