Hi folks,
I went out for a morning ride with OMD earlier this week and cruised round our (road) hilly time trial course so that I could create the segment. Here it is linked in the club discussion…

I was hoping to run another timed event again this year (as I did last year), but work has had the better of me on week-day evenings this year. Instead, get yourself out there, ride the segment and record some times 🙂
Where’s the start point and are you going clockwise? Also, is the spur down to Milngavie past the reservoir part of the route?
If you hover your mouse over the profile below the map you will see the running of the segment.
Starts heading north out of Milngavie (at Mosspark Rd), up past the reservoir, turn right at end of Mugdock, left onto A81 and down into Strathblane, up Cuilt Brae, past Carbeth then up the Khyber Pass and back round to Mugdock.
Hi just joined Strava today- looks good better than map my ride etc.
I’m calculating a Vets Standard time for the Hilly TT.
For info and comparisson, I think the record is Derek Clark with 30 minutes – age at the time unknown (to me)
I think I did it in 99 as a 35 year old in 33 minutes and as a 46 year old in 36 minutes (and a bit)
To my mind a reasonable standard would be
30 minutes for anyone under 30
33 minutes for anyone of 35
increasing by 15 seconds per year to age 50
from 50 to 60 increasing by 20 seconds per year
age 60 to 70 increasing by 25 seconds per year and
above 70 by 30 seconds per year
so Standard Time for a 50 year old would be 33mins plus 15×15(3 3/4 minutes) therefore standard = 36 mins 45 seconds. Therefore if a 50 year old does it in 40 minutes they are +3m15secs
If done in 35 mins they are -1m 45s
a sixty year old would be 33 minutes plus 25 (years) times 20 seconds =500 seconds so therefore 41mins 20 seconds. If they did 40 minutes? minus 1m20s or if they did an hour? +18 minutes 20 seconds
You’ll appreciate this is a non scientific but playing field levelling way of dealing with age. Copyright @me.2012!
Lets try some rides and age adjust them and see if it is too generous?
30 mins for under 30s over 11 miles!? Think we should be aiming a bit higher than that. Any self respecting 70 year old should be getting 30 minutes AT LEAST.

Unreal…
I done it in 7 minutes at 47 .it would have been less but i ran out of petrol and had to walk the last 100 m.well actually it was more a jog.
Ain’t strava great it lets you know slow you are even in km/hrs and how not so very far you’ve came.
Forgot to add – anyone fancy giving it a crack this week? Monday or Thursday eve?
Can’t get strava on a windows phone, damn but need to give it a go. I have been doing timed tt’s on Georgetown rd at inchinnan with road club and it is addictive. Course record is 14.17 for 7.2 flattish miles. I am getting 18.43 pb on my cross bike, most guys use tt bikes an aero helmets and seems to help. I did buy tt bars and these are well worth it, took 40 secs off my time, get bars for about 50 quid, well worth it.
Count me in – I did it once when I had a road bike for all of 6 days, I think John Bennie organized/timed it a couple of years ago. Sat morning shot as it’s getting dark quite early now.
Robin, it’s a HILLY TT, so anything under 30 mins would definitely be pending a dope test!
Simon, as far as I can see, the course record is 33 mins 10 secs set by Derek Clark in 1994, when he was 29 (and damn fast).
John, IIRC the finishing line is the entrance to the east car park?
Haha, I know. It was more about the handicap system and an excuse to post up that ridiculous list of (flat!) times… 29.43 for a 10 at age…. 91. Respect.
If I get a chance I’m going to give it a go maybe this week. I had a quick non-strava’d go last week and it’s ridiculously hard to ride fast. Now, I’m off to ‘prepare properly’.
