42km and +1200 metres climbing & descending. It looked a bit like this from the top….
And felt a bit like this….
Hi. I’ve decided to head to Selkirk tomorrow to get a big ride in. It’ll need to be a prompt 9:30am start to cover the 50-55km and various descents & climbs, it’s probably 7-8 hours out on the bike, including a few stops. The riding is mixed but I’ll be taking in as much fast & technical descending as I can find or remember. This also means some big climbs – sorry.
There’s the option of a coffee stop about 1/3 the way around the route. After that there’s no cafes so bring enough food & water to last the day. There are points to bail out around the ride but I won’t have spare maps so you’ll need to be self-sufficient if you think you may head back sooner. It looks like it’ll be dry but cloudy with a bit of a breeze.
If you’re interested then post up here or text me (oh-7-nine-7-7 oh-4-3-7-oh-7)
For folks not doing Glentress 7 …..
Where: Coopers pub, Great Western Road, Kelvinbridge
When: Friday 27th May, 7pm onwards
What: beer and banter, trying to recognise clubmates without crash helmets on!
Why: why not, it’s been a while since the last club social and it’s the start of a bank holiday
Post up if you’re coming.
Here’s some advanced notice for your busy calendars. The GMBC Summer BBQ will be on Saturday 02-July, at the Milngavie & Bearsden Sports Club. The plan is the same as last year – to enjoy some beautifully cooked burgers & sausages, some lovely fresh salads all washed down with a cool, refreshing drink in the sunshine with fellow club members (*). As per last year, we’ll be making use of the sports club bar to buy drinks.
The BBQ event is open to all paid up club members – so if you haven’t joined or renewed in 2016 please head over to the Membership Application page and follow the instructions there. It’s fine to bring along family and your partner (I’m sure club members can talk about something other than bikes for a few hours!).
A sign up sheet will be posted soon so we can get names & estimate food etc. Hope to see you there.
* aka incinerate some dead animal flesh, garnish with a token salad leaf, wash down with some beer or wine or beer AND wine whilst squeezing into the gazebo to avoid the rain showers!
Hi, I’ve just posted up a ride on some of the techier trails in/around Aberfoyle for tomorrow.  This means a fair bit of climbing and shredding, riding, mincing down the steeper trails.  Meet in the main car park at 10:30am.
Our trail maintenance efforts have now made it from pg 30 of the local community magazine to a feature on the website for the Scotland Outdoors magazine! Some wider recognition of the good work we’ve been doing locally.

8 folks out for the 7pm ride, another 5 for the 7:45pm ride and 4 more up on Dumgoyne. Cracking night to be out.
The final date for path maintenance has been arranged with the Mugdock Rangers. It’s Saturday 04-June. The plan is to meet at Khyber car park and install a new gate which should make it easier for horses, prams, bikes/bike trailers etc to get through the fence rather than the kissing gate & farm gate set up just now.
If you’re free to help, even for part of the day then please pop your name down at the link below and I’ll be in touch with details for the day by email.
Please see below for a request for marshalls for two upcoming races at Cathkin Braes from the organising SXC committee via Debbie Houston at Dales Cycles:
“I’m on the hunt for marshals for our two events at Cathkin Braes, the first is our own SXC round on the 22nd of this month for which I need folks to sign up for asap. The next is the British Champs event on the 16th & 17th of July for which I’m looking to get in the region of 100 marshals. There is a page to sign up on the sxc.org.uk website, go to contact and scroll down, sign up and click on Cathkin Braes.Volunteers would need to be at marshal briefing in race village (top carpark at Cathkin Braes) for 8.30am and would be on course until approximately 4pm and lunch will be provided. If you could contact any groups you’re involved with or even if there are any staff that might be able to help out I would appreciate it.Kind RegardsJasonSXC Committee”
