Ride Report- Glen Ample Sunday 21st August

Weather= dry and bright

Riders- 8- Eilidh, Grant, Barry, Gerry, Alison, Sam, Dapper Stuart, and Swedish Martin.

Total Ride time- 11.30- 4.30pm including a leisurely lunch in Lochearnhead

After a considerable delay getting away caused by Barry getting lost and then being told by staff we couldn’t leave our cars in the car park all day,[In future, if riding this in the tourist session suggest people park in small car park just park the Laide Inn ], we started on Route 7, before hitting the road up to the main trail.

Main trail into Glen Ample means a long, steep slog up fire road, made more bearable with some fantastic views of Loch Lubnaig, and Ben Ledi. Eventually we got to Glen Ample.

Loch Lubnaig from fire road

Club Night Out- This Friday

Hiya,

Just a wee reminder about this friday’s club night out. Meet up venue is Big Blue, near Kelvinbridge, just off Great Western Road, start time 7pm.

I know Barry said he’d be there for 7!! I will be there a more sensible time of around 8ish….

I know quite a few have said they are going, but how about a show of hands to the club?

See you there.

Rides This Week- Sunday Away Ride

Hi,

Just a reminder for those up for away ride this sunday. I think there was about 6-7 folk up for it at last post.

Glen Ample loop- meet at Kilmahog Woollen Mill car park at 10.30am. 25km loop of mixed riding- some single track, a wee bitta road, and some of route 7. Refreshment stops possible in Balquiddar and Lochearnhead, but take own fuel too.

Weather looks iffy just now, but i reckon its really too early to predict!

See folks then.

Planning Ahead- Away Ride- Sunday 21st August

Hiya,

Does anyone fancy doing Glen Ample ride Sunday 21st? For those who don’t know it, start in Kilmahog outside Callander and head up towards Strathyre. All the way through a gorgeous and quiet Glen to Lochearnhead, then back down some of Route 7. (thinks its about 20km in total).

I was up there a week ago for the first time and the singletrack is great, not to mention the scenery!!

I know this used to be a GMBC favourite, and reckon its about time it was put back on the away ride list. and, plenty of notice too!

Show  of hands if you think you may be interested. I’ll be going anyway….

Lakes Weekend 29th July-1st August

Hi folks,

Just a reminder about the lakes trip. This trip is definately going ahead.

The campsite is here:

http://www.baysbrownfarm.com/

Its in a wee village called Chapel Stile, just 7 miles from Ambleside. Takes about 2.5 hours to drive from Glasgow, so those who just want a weekend can manage it too. For those who don’t fancy camping, there is lots of choice of B&B’s, and a hostel in Ambleside. The village has one country pub, and another one a mile away.

The thinking is that there is loads of choice of riding down here, including road stuff, so don’t be put off. Its as much about a social weekend away somewhere very nice as it is about the riding.

For those wanting mega stuff, there’s the High Road near Ullswater which is about 20 mins away, and there is lots of choice for single track too.

Anyway, more the merrier, mixed abilities/bike types welcome.

If this hasn’t persuaded you its a good idea, jsut remember very few midges down there! Can’t say the same for the ticks, mind.

Me, Dawn, John and Ryz are definately going (unless Iron (Wo)Man kills Dawn next week!) And, a couple of biking mates from Wales.

Lakes Trip – 29th-31st July

Hiya,

After a bit of discussion with a few folk who want to do this, have set the date for end of July. Think monday 1st will be a bank holiday for some, so there is the possibility of making it a 3 day trip.

Camping at Baysbrown Farm near Ambleside- lovely big camp site right in the foot of the hills. Near to a number of village pubs, and great riding from there. Obviously, for those not keen on camping, I am sure it will be easy enough to find somewhere else nearby. There is a hostel in Ambleside which is only 3 miles away.

So, if you think you might be interested, save the date and let yourself be known.

There’s not been a GMCB weekend away for a while, so let’s make this is good one!!

Cheers

Lakes Trip – July

Hiya,

I know a lakes trip is on the Calander for the May bank holiday, but not sure if there will be much uptake. I’m planning a trip to Ambleside area, camping in early July- dates TBC.  Loads of great riding around there, including a fab loop around lake windamere on combination of briddleways, and single track. Camping means easy to oganise and folk can decide last minute. Only takes 2.5 hours to drive from Glasgow, so may seem far but about the same time as fort bill! More info will follow, but if you think you might be interested, let yourself be known!

Cheers,

Sam
