Ben Venue – Sunday

Kev and I plan to do this on Sunday, who else is in? Are we leaving from Aberfoyle rather than the Ben Venue car park at Loch Achray? I know the route from Achray but not familiar with the one from Aberfoyle.
Can you confirm.

Cheers

  1. Up the track from Forest Hills over the big metal deer gate.

Climb up to the shooting hut. Drop down back onto the main path then across to the footpath. There is a short section of crossing open moorland.

Carry and push up past the bealach to the summit.

There are two sections at the top that are carry up / carry down but are worth it for getting to the top and the terrific views.

Return via the singletrack you came up to the lochside below.

Big smiles at the valley floor all round (unless you hate hikey bikey and techy descending in which case you’ll have your greetin’ face on!) Ha! Ha!

    Enjoy!

    • Typical. The weather’s looking great for Sunday, I put Ben Venue on the calendar because I missed it in cracking weather last year and then this year I won’t make it coz I’ve done my knee in. Got my greetin’ face on already!! 🙁

Dene – take photos! Show me what I’m missing. Again.

  2. Cheers Sanny, I’ll get the OS out and have a look at that route. I guess its a fair bit longer if you’re climbing from Aberfoyle and as it looks like a warm dry day thats just fine by me.
Yep, I’ll get some shots G just to rub it in.
    You joining us Sanny?

  3. Dene,

Missed the same ride last year and photo’s looked great so, all being well with the old knees I would be up for this, as long as you don’t mind waiting for the fat bloke too much.

  4. Hi Dene

Off on another mission at the weekend. Aiming to do 4 peaks up Glen Lyon on the Inverar Horseshoe then if we are feeling fresh, heading over to Ben Lawers and knocking one or two peaks off there too. If the weather is like today, we may go for the full Lawers group traverse of 7 summits and add on Meall Nan Tarmachan. Whoop!

Venue is ace and an easy spin from Aberfoyle.

  5. I’m up for this. Anyone want to share a lift? I’m in the WestEnd – I can drive and take two others or happy to jump in with someone else?

  6. Go Sanny go! I’ll wave when when we summit, we may see one another.
Debs said she saw you today : )

Sounds like we may have a few now, my other pal Stu is coming along too plus one or two more. See you all in the Aberfoyle carpark at 10am. In case you need it, here’s me number – 07970 260 420

  7. The gate is about 1.5km along Loch Ard just after Aitskieth (used to be a hotel). The track goes almost back on yourself. If you go as far as Forest Hills, you have gone too far.
Wont be able to join you this time

  8. Hi Dene

It’s a top ride up Venue. I love hitting the summit as the views are terrific and despite a couple of very short carry downs near the summit, the descent is ace. It’s worth the effort to get up there.

Hoping the Lawers ride comes off if the weather holds up. I’ve no idea how rideable it will be between Lawers Hotel and the top of Lawers. There’s a natter if three peaks to get there. Eek!

Enjoy your ride. The metal gate is at Altskeith. It’s a steady haul up to the shooting Lidge buwith cracking views . Make sure you take lots of pics!

  9. just to confirm we are meeting in the main carpark in Aberfoyle at 10?
If any one needs a lift from Glasgow give me a text on 07976729083.
I might not be back on the forum before Sunday.

    Cheers,
    Rob

  10. Don’t forget THE CLOCKS GO FORWARD ON SUNDAY folks, so set your alarm for an hour earlier. Dinnae show up at 11 as we’ll be gone by then
