GMBC 25th Anniversary Events

As you may, or may not, be aware GMBC was born way back in the mists of time, sometime in 1987 – a time when mountain bikes were purple and Phil “Old Man” Draper was simply Phil Draper.  Mountain biking has changed a lot in the last 25 years and the club will have evolved and changed as its members have come and gone.  It’s a fantastic achievement that the club is still strong after all this time and it’s a fact worth celebrating.

Hmmm, birthday cake!

To this end, your Committee are planning a series of 25th Anniversary events during the year and we’d like to ask you if there’s anything specifically that you’d like to see on this calendar of events.  To provide some inspiration here are some of the events that we’re working on bringing you over the next few months:

  • Ballater Weekender – a couple of last minute places are available.  6th to 8th April
  • Trossachs Weekender – date TBC, near to Glasgow, riding, beers and maybe a BBQ
  • Trailquest Competition & World Famous GMBC Summer BBQ – early June (date TBC)
  • The Classic Club Rides – old skool routes which may be totally new to recent members
  • The Big Club Ride – a Sunday ride where we get as many club members (old & new) as possible out on a Sunday ride
  • Solstice/Bothy Trip – may combine it or it may be 2 trips.  16/17th June.
  • Autumn/Winter Presentations – with special guest speakers
  • Other weekends away being considered: The Lakes, North Wales, Torridon, Dales

If there are any other ideas you have or any specific routes you want to see on the GMBC25 list of events then post them up or let one of the Committee know.  I’m confident that with your participation we can make this a fantastic year for the club with some great new memories and tales to tell at the 30th anniversary!

    comments, ideas, responses please.

  2. A Lake District weekend sounds good to me. I have a good knowledge of the south lakes and would be happy to lead a ride one day. Or, if it was the somewhere in the north lakes I’m sure Grant would have some good route suggestions.

A mass Sunday ride would also be fun, I’d make an effort to be around for that one.

  3. I’m definitely keen for a Lakes weekend, hopefully we can work something out for a date when I’m not at a wedding/birthday party etc.

Will discuss it with folks next time I’m out.

  4. Lakes weekend for me after 1st wk July please.
