Highland E-guide

Have a look at the new E-guide from Developing Mountain Biking in Scotland (DMBinS) at Scottish Cycling. There are 21 natural routes and some trail centres being promoted across at the highlands that may interest a few of you. Any feedback would be great here or on the DMBinS facebook page.

Grand Tour of Scotland

Planning a wee Grand Tour of Scotland before heading  south to Englandshire in a few weeks. Taking my 29er for some sweet singletrack, walking boots for a few peaks, a tent and my van so can go anywhere. Sadly, my fitness is at an all time low so no full days out.

So where can you recommend I go in a week??

Go Pro Vids

For those who don’t who use the FB Forum here are links to 2 short videos I made recently.

One is of the local trails at OK and the other is my recent weeks holiday to Bikevillage in France. Enjoy

Weekend Events

Hi.  There’s plenty happening this weekend so I thought I’d summarise what’s going on:

  • Friday – club social, Drygate pub, 7pm onwards, all welcome, meet your fellow clubmates and find out what they look like without crash helmets and being caked in mud!
  • Saturday a.m. – path maintenance with the Mugdock Park Rangers, meet at Mugdock Visitor Centre, 10am for 2 hours
  • Saturday p.m. – local ride after the path maintenance, meet at the club hall, 1:30pm.  Chilled out ride, helmet required and a post-ride cafe stop is planned.
  • Sunday – Kirkie audax event (road ride), 10am

More TV Action For GMBC Types??

Don’t say GMBC doesn’t provide exciting opportunities for its members………

We’ve been contacted to see if anyone would be interested in taking part in the TV show “Dinner Date”.  I believe it’s a dating show based around cooking a meal or summat.  Contact dinnerdateAThattrickDOTcom if you’re interested.

Although I can cook I can’t do puddings, unless flapjacks count and I’m probably washing my hair that night anyway or riding my bike or washing my hair after riding my bike.

Anyway, good luck if you go for it and if it makes it on to telly I expect to hear a discussion about wheel sizes, gear ratios and how awesome you are on Strava.

x1 Space For Selkirk

We’ve had x1 person cancel for the Peebles / Selkirk trip this weekend so there’s a space in the hostel going. It’s the Saturday night only and it’ll be £20. The plans for Saturday’s riding are being worked out just now but it’ll be a shorter ride than Sundays one. If you’re interested in the space then post up on the website or drop me an email.

GMBC Social/Leaving Do: Fri 29th Aug

So, it’s been awhile since we’ve had a good old swally in the pub.  And, sadly, 3 long term club members are leaving for pastures new so we thought it was an ideal opportunity to get together and celebrate the start of some new adventures, whether you’re leaving Glasgow or not.

Tom & Ieva are moving through to start the Edinburgh chapter of GMBC (maybe) and skinny Simon is flitting to France where the sun shines all the time and drinking wine is a national sport (this should suit Simon no end!!).

The plan:

  • Where: Drygate Beerhall (upstairs), Drygate Brewing Co., 85 Drygate (we have a table booked for 20 people)
  • When: 7pm onwards
  • Who: open to all; new members, not-so-new members, partners/friends etc.
  • What: turn up, get food if you fancy that, get a drink, chat and be social.

So, who’s up for this??

Commonwealth Games Legacy In Action, maybe

Just a quick note to say we had 7 new/newish riders join us last night (Aileen, Pawel, Rhona, Katie, Gary, Sahra and Kirstin) and they all got stuck into the riding and did really well right to the end.

A big thank you to Ryszard and Eilidh for helping host the ride.  I know they all appreciated it.  The intro rides are only officially planned for another 3 weeks but with this level of interest we’ll need to keep something going – if you want to volunteer or suggest something for an intro level ride then post up or drop me an email.

PS: Gary told us he thought about coming along to the club after seeing GMBC on STV Glasgow – so Barry’s patter and Iain’s tales of faceplants didn’t put him off – good effort!
