Selkirk MTB Marathon

Nice to see we’ve made the BBC News! I’ve never been referred to as the “cream of the crop” before* 😉

It’s been a cold and frosty night at the campsite but the bar at the rugby club was warm and good craic. Looks like a good day for the marathon!

* I suspect it’s the elite racers they are referring to here.

  1. Fist bumps all around to Team GMBC for a great weekend at the Selkirk MTB Marathon. It was a cold but dry race day which meant for fast trails. The post-ride curry was ace and the post-curry-wet-Sunday-morning full Scottish breakfast was really welcome after a stormy Saturday night.

Our riders for the weekend were:

75km: Will, RichHB, Gary “Maverick” Clark, TomW, Eilidh, Tom’s pal Alan, Angoose and Andy Barker

    75km on a singlespeed – Simon Haslam – what a star!!

50km: Keiran, Ryszard, Katie, Myriam, Al, myself, Jamie Quinn

In the informal Enduro competition Jamie & Angus placed 6th and 7th respectively and Gary & myself came in 17th and 18th – making it 4 GMBC/Dales team in the Top 20 for stage 1 of the Enduro.

Angus then went on to smash it on the 3rd enduro stage coming in 3rd overall – 2 places behind Crawford Carrick-Anderson!

The friendly chap, Ed, who joined us for drinks on Saturday night was Ed Worthington who seems to have finished in 19th place and is ranked 7th in British Cycling’s MTB XC class! Let’s hope he doesn’t mind the 7pm Wednesday night Intro ride chill out if he takes me up on the offer to join us!!

It’s a great event and I’d thoroughly recommend it to anyone who fancies a big ride on some great trails.

  2. Does anyone have recorded GPS track for 75km route (GPX file ??)

  3. I do, just ignore the riding speeds 😉
    Where do you want it?

  4. Thanks, can you send it to:
